The Trojans fell to the Bruins on the road in the first of two regular-season meetings
LOS ANGELES – Playing in front of a national television audience on NBC, the 22nd-ranked USC women's volleyball team (11-5, 2-4 Big Ten) fell to crosstown rival UCLA (10-6, 4-2) in straight sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-15) at Pauley Pavilion on Saturday, Oct. 11.

- RS Jr. OH Adonia Faumuina led USC with 11.0 points gained on seven kills and five blocks (three solo).Â
- RS So. OH London Wijay had seven kills and a team-high nine digs to go with a block and a service ace.
- So. MB Mia Tvrdy scored seven kills and had three blocks.
- Fr. S Reese Messer put up 31 assists and had five digs, a kill, and a block.
- For the Bruins, Cheridyn Leverette led with 14 kills. Eliana Urzua had 11 kills and seven digs. Kate Duffey put up 30 assists and had 11 digs for the double-double; and Lola Schumacher totaled 11 digs with six assists.
- The Trojans raced out to a nine-point lead in the opening set, 11-2, but were caught for the second of eight ties at 14-all when UCLA rolled through a 5-1 run. USC had its last lead at 21-20 when Leah Ford put a shot to the floor for a kill. Despite the hot start, the Trojans finished with a .077 hitting rate thanks in part to four blocks by a UCLA defense that came on strong at the end. The Bruins had five kills apiece from Leverette and Urzua and hit .179 in the comeback win, 25-21.
- Like it did in the opening frame, USC led by four, 8-4, but were caught at nine-all for the fifth tie of the set. Faumuina, Wijay, Tvrdy, and Abigail Mullen each registered three kills and USC put up six blocks in a 25-22 loss. Leverette (6) and Urzua (4) combined for 10 kills to put the Bruins in front, 2-0.
- USC scored the first point of the third, but UCLA equalized and then took the lead on a kill by PK Kong and was never tied again, en route to a 25-15 win for the sweep. The Bruins hit .429 with 14 kills (2e) on 28 swings and held USC to 10 kills on 35 attacks (6e, .114). Brooklyn Tealer came off the bench to lead the Trojan attack with five kills, but it wasn't enough to overcome a UCLA effort that got four kills each from Kong and Marianna Singletary.
- USC hits the road for matches at Iowa (Friday, Oct. 17) and Wisconsin (Sunday, Oct. 19). The Trojans will face the Hawkeyes on the road for the first time and be shown on a Big Ten Plus stream. The match against the Badgers will be carried live on Big Ten Network.
- USC fell to 66-59 all-time against UCLA (27-26 on the road) and suffered its first sweep to the Bruins since 2019.Â
- The Trojans dropped to 2-2 in road matches this season.
