USC’s Lily Fairclough and Dani Borruel Capture Doubles Title At ITA Southwest Regional Championships

Trojans Fairclough, Borruel and Jana Hossam punch ticket to NCAA Championships
SAN DIEGO - USC's stellar duo of senior Lily Fairclough and freshman Dani Borruel won four straight matches to take the doubles title at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships on Tuesday., Oct. 21.
With the win, Fairclough and Borruel earned a spot in the upcoming NCAA Doubles Championship Tournament in Orlando next month. The tournament win marked the first regional doubles title for USC since 2015 and the eighth overall in school history.
Fairclough and Borruel won a three-set thriller in the final to take the match 6-7 (10-12), 6-4, 1-0 [11-9] over CSUN's West/Ho.
Also earning a spot at the NCAA Individual Championships was sophomore Jana Hossam, who downed five opponents to reach the championship final. Hossam was also a strong contender for the doubles title, playing alongside freshman Krisha Mahendran. The duo won three matches before falling to their USC counterparts Fairclough/Borruel in the semifinals.
USC's newcomers prevailed against the stiff competition, with freshman singles player Mahendran reaching the semifinal and knocking off the No. 1 seed in the tournament along the way. In the semifinal, Mahendran faced her Trojan teammate Hossam, who ultimately took the quarterfinals match 6-2, 6-2. Fellow freshman Eugenia Zozaya also had a strong showing, reaching the singles semifinals.
USC now has four Trojans qualified for the upcoming NCAA Individual Championships in Orlando, Fla., - Hossam (singles), Emma Charney (singles), Fairclough (doubles) and Borruel (doubles).
