No. 22 USC Women's Volleyball Tops Terps in Straight Sets

London Wijay and Abigail Mullen each collected 10 kills apiece in a 3-0 win over Maryland
LOS ANGELES – The 22nd-ranked USC women's volleyball team (14-5, 5-4 Big Ten) defeated Maryland (8-11, 1-8) in straight sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-18) at Galen Center on Thursday, Oct. 23. It was the Trojans' third consecutive win.

- RS So. OH London Wijay had 10 kills (1e, 19att) and hit a season-high .474 to go with five digs, a pair of blocks, and a service ace. It was her 12th match in double-digit kills and her 14th in double-digit points (12.0).
- Fr. OPP Abigail Mullen scored 12.0 points with 10 kills (0e) on 19 swings to hit a career-high .526 and added five digs and three blocks (one solo). It was her 12th match in double-digit kills and the 15th in double-digit points.
- Fr. LIB Taylor Deckert dug up nine balls, had a pair of assists, and scored on a service ace.
- Fr. S Reese Messer put up 35 assists to go with four digs, two blocks, and a kill. She set the Trojans to a season-high .427 hitting percentage with 40 kills (5e) on 82 attacks.
- So. MB Mia Tvrdy had six kills (2e, 11att, .364) with four blocks (one solo).
- Sr. MB Rylie McGinest scored six kills (1e, 15att) and hit .333 with four blocks.
- For the Terrapins, Ajack Malual and Olivia Ruy each had five kills apiece to lead the offense. Lilly Wagner had a team-high seven digs. Annika Sokol and Wagner each had seven assists, but Maryland had just 21 kills (25e) on 85 attempts and hit negative .047.
- USC hit a season-best .427 and held Maryland to an opponent low negative .047 hitting to set new minimum-maximum marks for 2025. The Trojans also had more kills (40-21), assists (37-18), and blocks (12.5-1.0) than the Terps. It was the Trojans' 11th match in double-digit blocks this season.
- The Trojans rolled away with a 25-12 win in the opening frame on .500 hitting. USC scored 15 of its points on kills (1e, 28att) and had two blocks and an ace. Mullen led the way with five of those kills while Wijay and McGinest each had three. McGinest had back-to-back kills to give USC a 9-3 lead before the Trojans flipped the switch to run away with the set. The USC defense picked up seven digs to help hold Maryland to a negative .083 hitting rate (6k, 8e, 24att) in the win.
- USC claimed a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-14 win in set two. USC collected 11 more kills (1e) on 24 swings to hit .417. The Trojans racked up seven blocks and Deckert had four digs in the second set to help hold the Terps to another negative hitting rate (-.143). Wijay added four more kills while Tvrdy had three to pace the USC offense in set two.
- In a far more competitive third set, the Trojans put the Terrapins on a pension plan to complete the sweep with a 25-18 win on .367 hitting. USC added three more blocks and held the Terps to a .091 hitting rate with nine kills (6e, 33att). Mullen had four of her kills in the third while Brooklyn Tealer and Wijay had three kills apiece.
- USC takes on Washington (9-9, 4-4 Big Ten) on Sunday (Oct. 26) for a noon battle that will be shown live on Big Ten Plus. The Women of Troy will close out the month with their second regular-season clash with crosstown rival UCLA on Wednesday (Oct. 29) at 7 p.m. PT. The Battle for LA will be shown live on Big Ten Network.
- USC improved to 6-1 against Maryland in the all-time series.
- The Trojans moved to 9-2 at home and to 225-62 all-time at Galen Center.
- USC reached double-digit blocks (12.5) for the 11th time this season.
- The Women of Troy swept an opponent for the seventh time.
- Head Coach Brad Keller collected his 99th-career win and is one win from the 100-win museum.
