FIRST SERVE (TL;DR)
AVCA POLL POSITION: The Trojans open the 2025 season ranked No. 21 in the AVCA coaches' poll—the same position it held to open the 2024 season. Overall, USC has appeared in the coaches' poll 551 times, which ranks sixth all-time. The Women of Troy have held a spot among the poll's top 10 teams 317 times, which ranks eighth all-time, and the Trojans have held the No. 1 ranking 47 times for seventh all-time. Since 1982—the year of the poll's inception—USC has appeared in the final poll 35 of 42 times with 18 finishes in the top 10; 12 in the top five, and twice as the No. 1-ranked team (2002, '03).
CENTURY CITY: Sixth-year head coach Brad Keller is 98-62 and needs two wins to reach 100 in his career. Only three other coaches have ever collected 100 or more wins in USC history: Mick Haley (435), Chuck Erbe (310), and Lisa Love (205). At 98 wins, Keller is already the fourth-winningest coach in program history.
DAWG WALKERS: USC leads Washington 47-33 all-time but has had little luck when it has played the Huskies in Seattle. The Trojans are 19-20 as the road team and are just 5-15 since 2005 when the Huskies won the NCAA championship. After winning eight straight road matches over UW between 1996-2004, USC has won just five times (2011, '18, '19, '23, '24) in 20 matches at Hec Ed. At home, the Trojans are a far more palatable 26-12 against Washington.
SHELLSHOCKED: Through six all-time meetings, every match between USC and Maryland has ended in straight sets for one side. The Trojans have swept the Terrapins five times (2-0 once in 1976) with 3-0 victories four times. The Terrapins' only win in the series was also a 3-0 win in 2017, played in College Park.
B1G POW WOW: Four different Women of Troy have garnered Big Ten weekly awards this season. Redshirt So. MB Leah Ford was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1—the first weekly award of her career—after she produced career highs of 11 kills and 10 blocks for her first double-double. Reese Messer was chosen as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week (Sept. 22) for her first-career weekly award. Redshirt So. OH London Wijay earned Big Ten Player of the Week recognition (Oct. 20) and was joined the same week by Fr. LIB Taylor Deckert who was chosen as the Freshman of the Week. Trojans have earned Big Ten weekly awards eight times. In 2024—USC's first year in the conference—Mia Tuaniga earned Setter of the Week laurels twice while Ally Batenhorst was named the Player of the Week once and Jadyn Livings was chosen for the Freshman of the Week award once.
ONCE AROUND THE BLOCK: USC's 2.81 blocks per set ranks second in the Big Ten and is 13th nationally. USC posted 16.0 blocks in a win over Loyola Marymount (Aug. 31) and has reached double-digit blocks 10 times. In 2024, USC reached double-digit blocks 20 times in 32 matches including season highs of 19.5 blocks twice: vs. Kansas State (Sept. 6) and vs. Loyola Marymount (Sept. 19).
DIGGERY-DOO-DECKERT: Fr. LIB Taylor Deckert's career-high 28 digs during the Trojans' match at Iowa marked the most by a USC player since Kelli Barry had 30 in a match against UCLA on Nov. 22, 2025. Deckert followed her 28-dig match with 25 against Wisconsin for her first two-career matches with 20-plus digs and marked her ninth and 10th in double digits. The 28-dig performance ranks third among Big Ten players in 2025. Deckert averages 3.22 digs per set.
A TALE OF TWO CITIES: Pin-hitters London Wijay and Brooklyn Tealer are carrying the left-side load for the Women of Troy. Wijay—a redshirt sophomore—leads the team with 3.14 kills per set while Tealer—a redshirt freshman—ranks fifth among Trojans with 1.97 kills per set.
DOUBLE DOWN: Six Trojans own career double-doubles. Three were achieved in the first week of the season. OPP Abigail Mullen (4), MB Leah Ford, and S Reese Messer (7) each produced the first of their careers to help the Trojans go 2-0 to open the 2025 season. Entering the fall, OH Adonia Faumuina had logged a double-double in her first-collegiate match as she led the Women of Troy to a win over crosstown rival UCLA. OH London Wijay had back-to-back double-doubles in road matches at Purdue and UCLA for her first two of her career and now has 12-career double-doubles. LIB Gala Trubint has had two-career double-doubles with digs and 10 assists each time.
HOME, SWEET HOME: USC is 224-62 (.783) all-time at Galen Center. The Trojans went 12-4 at home in 2024. In 2011, USC was 12-1 in home matches and completed 2012 with a 17-1 mark. In 2007, USC was 19-0 at home on the way to an appearance in the NCAA national semifinal match. The Trojans are 20-4 all-time at Galen Center in NCAA tournament matches. The four losses were to Hawai'i (2008 and 2009) and San Diego (2018) each time in the second round; and to Washington in the 2013 NCAA Regional Final.
