USC Women's Volleyball's Abigail Mullen Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week
November 10, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
The first-year opposite hitter picked up her sixth double-double and did it with a career-high 17 digs in a win at Washington
ROSEMONT, Ill. – USC women's volleyball opposite hitter Abigail Mullen (Kansas City, Mo./Liberty HS) was chosen as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the week of Nov. 3-9, the Conference announced on Monday, Nov. 10.
It is the first weekly honor for Mullen—the fourth Freshman of the Week won by a Trojan—and pushes USC's total to eight weekly awards in 2025. Last week (Nov. 3), London Wijay earned her second Player of the Week award and freshman Reese Messer was tabbed for co-Setter of the Week honors. Wijay was also the Big Ten Player of the Week on Oct. 20. Earlier in the season, redshirt sophomore middle blocker Leah Ford was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 1) and Taylor Deckert was tabbed Freshman of the Week (Oct. 20).
Mullen totaled 29 kills (3.63 kps) and did that with a .317 hitting percentage to go with 25 digs (3.13 dps) and nine blocks (1.13 bps) on the weekend to average 4.44 points per set in two wins; against Northwestern and at Washington. She had 14 kills on .257 hitting with four blocks, one service ace and eight digs for 17.0 points against the Wildcats. In a road match at the Huskies, Mullen had 15 kills while hitting .400 hitting and added five blocks, a service ace and reached a career-high 17 digs for 18.5 points. The 15 kills and 17 digs marked her sixth double-double of the season. Mullen had her 16th match in double-digit kills and her 19th in double-digit points.
Among other award winners Nebraska's Andi Jackson and Wisconsin's Mimi Colyer shared Player of the Week honors. The Cornhuskers' Bergen Reilly was the Setter of the Week for the second time in a row and Nebraska's Laney Choboy was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
No. 17 USC is home to host Rutgers (11-15, 2-12 Big Ten) and No. 1-ranked Nebraska (24-0, 14-0) at Galen Center next week. The Trojans take on the Scarlet Knights on Friday (Nov. 14) in a 7 p.m. PT start and then host the Huskers on Sunday (Nov. 16) at noon. Both matches will be first-time road matches at USC for the visitors, and both will be shown live on Big Ten Plus. The Sunday meeting with Nebraska is sold out, but fans are encouraged to visit SeatGeek—the official after-market ticket partner of USC Athletics—for available seats.
