No. 17 USC Women's Volleyball Wins Eighth Straight in 3-1 Decision at Washington

Reese Messer handed out 49 assists to help guide the Women of Troy to a road victory over the Huskies
SEATTLE – The No. 17-ranked USC women's volleyball team (19-5, 10-4 Big Ten) won its eighth straight match with a four-set decision (21-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-16) over Washington (10-14, 5-9) at Alaska Airlines Arena on Sunday, Nov. 9. It is the Trojans' sixth consecutive victory against the Huskies and marks the first time USC has won eight conference matches in a row under sixth-year head coach Brad Keller.

- Fr. OPP Abigail Mullen logged her 16th match in double-digit kills and picked up her sixth double-double with 15 kills (5e, 25att, .400) and a career-high 17 digs. She also had five blocks and a service ace to lead all players with 18.5 points.
- RS So. OH London Wijay shared match-high honors with 15 kills (4e, 38att, .289) for her 17th time in double digits and added seven digs and a block for 15.5 points.
- Fr. S Reese Messer handed out 49 assists and put up nine digs go with a pair of kills.
- Fr. LIB Taylor Deckert had 14 digs—and three assists—for her 15th contest in double digits.
- RS Jr. OH Adonia Faumuina had 10 kills and a block for 10.5 points.
- Sr. MB Rylie McGinest totaled eight kills (3e) on 13 swings to hit .385 and had three blocks (one solo).
- RS So. MB Leah Ford had seven kills (0e) on 13 attempts for .538 hitting and added five blocks, two digs, and an ace.
- Sr. DS Gala Trubint tallied seven digs and had a pair of assists.
- For the Huskies, Kierstyn Barton led with 13 kills to go with eight digs. Simona Mateska added 12 kills and had seven digs to go with a pair of service aces and two blocks. Alexa Markley put in seven kills to go with two blocks. Zoria Heard led UW with nine digs and had a service ace.
- The Trojans out-hit the Huskies by a .292 to .163 margin and totaled more kills (60-44), assists (55-43), and digs (56-38). Washington had the edge in blocks (10-8) and had more service aces (4-2).
- The Huskies led by as many as five points in the opening set and finished off a 25-21 win behind seven kills from Mateska and five from Barton. Washington hit .375 with 15 kills (3e) on 32 attacks and scored four times from the service line. USC got six kills from Wijay and three apiece from Faumuina and McGinest and also totaled 15 kills (5e) on 32 attempts. Messer dished out 13 of her assists in the first and Deckert had five digs to lead the USC defense.
- USC pulled even with a 25-20 win in set two. The Trojans led by as many as seven at set point, 24-17, but the Huskies surged through a 3-0 run to give themselves a fighting chance. Messer handed out 15 assists in the set, and the Trojans hit .294 with 18 kills (8e) on 34 swings. Wijay added six more kills while Faumuina tallied four. Mullen racked up six digs and collected three points on two kills and a service ace in the win.
- The Trojans hit .345 (14k, 4e, 29att) in set three to move in front, 2-1, with a 25-19 win. Trailing early in the frame, USC used a 6-0 run to take control for good and led, 13-10. The Trojans went on top by five for the first time at 17-12 and held off a late Husky comeback bid to close the door. Mullen led the offense with four kills while Ford and McGinest added three apiece. Faumuina and Wijay had two kills each and the Trojans put up four blocks as a team.
- Set four was the Abigail Mullen show. She racked up seven of her kills with just one error on 10 swings to hit .600; and had four digs and a block to help the Trojans complete a 25-16 win. Trubint had five of her digs in the fourth while Deckert added four more as part of an effort to hold the Huskies to just .054 hitting (9k, 7e) on 37 attacks. Despite hitting into four UW blocks, USC built up a big lead early and was never threatened down the stretch.
- USC returns home to host Rutgers (11-15, 2-12 Big Ten) and No. 1-ranked Nebraska (24-0, 14-0) at Galen Center next week. The Women of Troy take on the Scarlet Knights on Friday (Nov. 14) in a 7 p.m. PT start and then hosts the Huskers on Sunday (Nov. 16) for a noon PT matinee bout. Both matches will be first-time road matches at USC for the visitors, and both will be shown live on Big Ten Plus. The Sunday meeting with Nebraska is sold out, but fans are encouraged to visit SeatGeek—the official after-market ticket partner of USC Athletics—for available seats.
- USC won its sixth straight match against Washington to improve to 49-33 in the all-time series. The Trojans also pull even in the head-to-head series in road matches (20-20) played in Seattle.
- The Women of Troy won their eighth straight match to extend the season's longest win streak. It is the first time USC has won eight consecutive conference matches under sixth-year head coach Brad Keller. The Trojans won seven in a row (Sept. 30-Oct. 21) as members of the Pac-12 in 2022. It also marks the longest conference win streak since USC won 10 in a row in 2015 (Sept. 23-Oct. 25) as part of the Pac-12.
- USC won its fourth straight road match and improved to 6-2 in road matches in 2025.
- The Trojans improved to 44-36 all-time in the state of Washington.
