KEY PLAYERS:
- Redshirt Senior Isabelle Vitale broke the USC single-game mark for assists as she dished out seven against Colorado. Vitale found sophomore Emma Bunting (three), sophomore Reese Robinson (one), sophomore Anna Regan (one), and senior Maddie Dora (two) to complete her record-defining day.
- Two Trojans earned a hat trick, as Dora had five goals, and E. Bunting had four goals. This is Dora's tenth career hat trick and third in three games; this is E. Bunting's first career hat trick. During her two games in Berkeley, Calif., Dora combined for 11 goals.
- Sophomore Annie Shields racked up another new career high, as she recorded 12 saves and allowed just six goals.
- In the draw circle, sophomore Anna Regan posted five draw controls and added one goal to her stat sheet.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Right from the start, both sides held each other in check as neither scored within the game's first nine minutes. Once that seal broke, it was off and never put back on as USC started their scoring route early. Dora took hold of the lead at 6:47, and the Trojans never gave it back as they led for the rest of the game. E. Bunting earned her first goal of the season only 24 seconds later, scoring two of the next three goals. The lone USC athlete to score outside of that was redshirt sophomore Hannah Barron at 2:08.
- The Trojans would dominate this second quarter, outscoring the Buffaloes 5-1. USC would have a mix of success as both sides of the field had their moments. Defensively, Shields would add three more saves, as she went into the half with six total. Offensively, Bunting would earn her hat trick (14:06) plus one more and goals from three other Trojans – Dora, sophomore Reese Robinson and Regan – to give the Trojans a 9-3 lead.
- Senior Christina Gagnon would join the fun to start the second half, as she scored the first two coming out of the break. Dora would confirm her hat trick plus one more with two goals in less than 20 seconds (:37 and:18).
- The final quarter was simply finishing the game as redshirt sophomore Kailey Pelkey got on the board, and Dora hit her fifth goal. However, Shields took the bulk amount of work, collecting six saves in the quarter. That shutdown success at the net helped hold Colorado at bay as USC finalized the score at 15-6.
