No. 18 USC Women's Tennis Downs Cal 4-3

LOS ANGELES – No. 18 USC women's tennis hung on versus Cal on Friday afternoon, outlasting the Golden Bears and fighting to a 4-3 victory at David X. Marks Stadium.
The Women of Troy started off the match with a bang as junior Emma Charney and senior Parker Fry notched a 6-0 victory on doubles court three to claim their eighth straight win. Senior Sloane Morra and freshman Jana Hossam were quick to follow, claiming their sixth straight with a 6-3 triumph on court two to secure the doubles point.
No. 53 Charney continued her hot hand in singles play, claiming the match's first singles point and USC's second overall with a straight set victory on court three. The Golden Bears bounced back with a pair of victories from No. 70 Lan Mi on court two and Greta Greco Lucchina on court four to even the match.
Graduate student Maia Sung put the momentum back on USC's side, battling through a stiff second set challenge to claim a point on court six before No. 43 Grace Piper fought to victory in a three-set thriller against No. 65 Mao Mushika on center court to clinch the match for USC. After the match was clinched, Cal claimed the final point on court five to make the score 4-3.
With the victory, the Women of Troy improve to 5-1 on the season. USC will enjoy a weekend break before returning to action in March when they will take on top-25 ranked Pepperdine and UCLA before beginning with conference play.
