The Women of Troy mustered six goals in the outing, as they were bested 18-6 by the Cardinal
LOS ANGELES – No. 22-ranked USC women's lacrosse (0-1) dropped its season opener to No. 20 Stanford (1-0), 18-6 at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, Feb. 8.

UP NEXT: The Women of Troy are back at it next week as they head up north for a battle with California at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 at the California Memorial Field in Berkeley, Calif.
GAME NOTES:
KEY PLAYERS
- Senior Maddie Dora posted a hat trick against Stanford, scoring on a free-position shot in the first quarter, before scoring again in the second and third quarter. This is her 8th career hat trick.
- Redshirt senior Isabelle Vitale got on the scoreboard once for the Trojans in the second quarter and had two assists, both in the third quarter. Vitale needed two goals this game to reach 100 career goals, but her second goal of the afternoon was disallowed due to a yellow card.
- Senior Christina Gagnon scored the first goal of the season for the Trojans in the first quarter.
- Two goalies entered the net, as senior Mia Fleming played in the first and sophomore Annie Shields relieved her for the final three quarters. Shields posted a career-high 11 saves during the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Stanford provided the heavy offensive attack, as they outscored the Trojans in all four quarters including a 5-0 fourth quarter.
- Stanford took control of the game early on, with two straight to open the contest, before Gagnon – assisted by sophomore Emma Bunting – provided the first goal of the season. Even with Dora adding a goal to the equation, the story was of Stanford's Aliya Polisky, who scored five times in the quarter.
- The Cardinal continued to find their offensive groove with three more in the second, while the Trojans were given some support from Vitale and Dora. USC would eventually take a five-goal deficit into the half.
- In the second half, the Trojans scored two more – both in the third – as Dora earned her first hat trick of the season, and sophomore Anna Regan picked up her first career goal. However the second half went almost exclusively to the Cardinal, as they outscored the Trojans 9-2.

GAME NOTES:
- The Trojans is now 0-1 against Stanford when they face each other in a non-conference regular season game.
- USC's 12-goal deficit is the largest in program history against the Cardinal. The previous largest margin of defeat was seven-goals (L, 12-5; April 2, 2023).
- USC's all-time record against Stanford is 9-12, the Trojans are now 6-4 against the Cardinal at home and are 2-1 against them at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum
- The Women of Troy are now 7-5 in the Coliseum, and 8-5 in season openers.
