No. 18 USC Women’s Tennis Erases Three Point Deficit to Down No. 19 Washington 4-3

SEATTLE – No. 18 USC women's tennis erased a three-point deficit on Friday to down No. 18 Washington 4-3 and pick up a conference win. With the victory, the Trojans improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten play.
The Women of Troy extended their winning streak in doubles play against the Huskies, picking up the early point for the ninth time this season (through nine matches played). Trojans Emma Charney and Parker Fry improved to 8-0 in dual play with a victory over Washington's McKenna Koenig and Carina Syrtveit 6-1. USC's No. 8 ranked duo of Lily Fairclough and Grace Piper hauled in the doubles point with a 7-5 win over UW's No. 85 ranked pair of Reece Carter and Alexia Jacobs. With the early point decided, play was suspended on court two as USC's No. 44 ranked pair of Sloane Morra and Jana Hossam led Washington's Luescher/Matsuda 5-3.
The Trojans struggled to find momentum as singles play began, dropping first sets on five out of six courts. Washington would take a commanding 3-1 lead following wins on courts four, five and three. Down 3-1, USC came back in true fight on fashion, winning on courts two, six and one. No. 56 ranked Charney beat Erika Matsuda 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 on court two to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of the Huskies. Freshman No. 118 ranked Hossam stepped up to tie the score, winning on court six over Carina Syrtveit 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-4 to bring the match to three points all. No. 47 ranked Grace Piper secured the victory for the Trojans on center court as the senior won a three-set thriller 7-6(6), 5-7, 7-5 over Washington's Reece Carter.
USC is back in action on Sunday as the Women of Troy travel to Eugene for a conference dual against Oregon 12:30 p.m. PT.
