No. 22 USC Lacrosse Falls to Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – No. 22 USC lacrosse (9-6, 2-5 Big Ten) fell victim to a second half surge as they lost to Penn State (7-7, 5-2 Big Ten), 16-8, on Sunday, Apr. 13 at Panzer Stadium.

The Women of Troy head back home for the regular season finale, as they battle longtime conference mate Oregon to secure their spot in the Big Ten tournament. That game takes place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 19 at Dignity Health Sports Park.

KEY PLAYERS:
- Senior Maddie Dora recorded her 12th hat trick of the season, netting three goals in her first hat trick since she posted her 11th in 11 games against Ohio State (March 23).
- Sophomore Lily Bunting led the defensive charge with four caused turnovers and six ground balls. Senior Alexis Niblock caused two turnovers herself and had four ground balls.
- Senior Catherine Lord posted the most draw controls from the circle as she had six. Redshirt sophomore Hannah Barron was second on the team with two.
- Freshman Charlotte Morton moved to 2-4 on the season, after posting 16 goals against compared to four saves.
- From the start the game was close, as Dora opened scoring early at 13:34 and USC hopped out to an early 3-2 lead in the first. Penn State would tie it up before the first quarter ended and we would have 3-3 game. That trend would continue, as the Trojans earned the first multi-score lead when they went up 5-3 after a sophomore Emma Bunting goal at 12:47. However, once USC went up 6-4, 6:44, there was a shift in momentum.
- The Nittany Lions would tie the match up at halftime, but that would only be part of the story, as that would set up a 12-4 run that lasted till the end of the game. Penn State would own all the advantages towards the second half as they had a 9-5 draw control, 6-2 save and 12-8 shots on goal advantage.
