No. 16 USC Women’s Tennis Sweeps Rutgers Scarlet Knights 4-0
April 18, 2025 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES – No. 16 USC women's tennis kicked off its last regular season weekend with a bang, sweeping Rutgers 4-0 at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium.
With just one weekend left in the regular season, the Women of Troy saw some changes to the lineup, playing all but one of their players against Rutgers. In doubles, it was season veterans and the No. 10 of senior Grace Piper and sophomore Lily Fairclough who finished first, cruising to a 6-1 finish on center court. Senior Sloane Morra and freshman Jana Hossam followed it up with a 6-3 victory on court two to haul in the doubles point.
The Women of Troy shook things up in singles play, moving Hossam up to court three where she looked unstoppable on her way to a dominant 6-1, 6-3 win. In her first outing of the season on center court, junior Emma Charney was also in fine form, defeating Mai Nguyen 6-2, 6-4 to put USC within one point of victory. Finally, it was senior Parker Fry–who seldom played singles this season–that clinched the match, winning 6-3, 6-3 on court six.
With the win, the Women of Troy improve to 14-6 on the season and 8-4 in conference play. Currently sitting in sixth place in the Big Ten standings, all eyes will be on tomorrow's match to build momentum going into next week's conference tournament. Saturday's senior day match up against Nebraska will kick off at 11 a.m. at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium.
