Trojans look to snap three-match loss streak.
LOS ANGELES – No. 22 USC women's tennis returns home to Southern California this weekend, prepared to take on a pair of Big Ten opponents in Minnesota and No. 19 Wisconsin at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium.
The Women of Troy (9-5, 3-3 in conference competition) enter the weekend on the heels of their toughest stretch of the season, having dropped the last three matches, including two losses to top 10 teams. USC will look to regain their homecourt advantage, where they are 7-3 this season with hopes of snapping a three-game skid and fight back up the conference standings.
USC will kick off the weekend on Saturday at noon PT, where they will take on Minnesota (9-11, 1-6 in conference play). The Gophers are 1-5 in their last six matches, with their only victory coming against Rutgers (who currently sit at the bottom of the Big Ten). Minnesota is 1-6 on the road this season and does not have any ranked singles or doubles players.
Following their contest with the Gophers, the Women of Troy will turn their attention to the No. 19 ranked Badgers on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT. Wisconsin is 14-1 this season and remains undefeated in Big Ten play (7-0), entering the weekend riding a 13-game win streak.
USC will look to senior No. 53 Grace Piper to put on a strong performance on center court, where she will presumably face No. 5 Maria Sholokhova for her third top five match-up this season. Most recently, Piper tied No. 3 Julia Fliegner of Michigan, with the match ending 4-4 in the third set.
The Badgers have one other ranked singles player in No. 100 Taylor Cataldi, and two ranked doubles pairings. The Women of Troy also boast two other ranked singles players in No. 58 junior Emma Charney and No. 89 sophomore Immi Haddad. USC also has a stellar ranked doubles team with No. 5 Piper and sophomore Lily Fairclough.
USC's Sunday contest against Wisconsin will include a donut giveaway for the first 150 fans and a kid's clinic with coaches following the matches conclusion. All children under the age of 12 are welcome to participate in the free event (racquets will not be provided).
