No. 18 USC Women's Tennis Advances to Second Round of NCAA Tournament

Trojans down Memphis 4-0 in Baton Rouge.
BATON ROUGE, La. – No. 18 USC women's tennis cruised to victory on Friday afternoon, defeating Memphis 4-0 during the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at the LSU Tennis Complex. With the win, USC advances to tomorrow's 12 p.m. PT second round match against the winner of this afternoon's contest between No. 13 LSU and Stephen F. Austin.
The victory marked the Women of Troy's 11th sweep of the season and 17th win overall under eighth year head coach Alison Swain.
The Trojans struck first in doubles, as Emma Charney and Parker Fry teamed up to take down the Tiger team of Alice Amendola and Clemence Thouard 6-3 on court three. Memphis responded with a win on center court as Sofia Mykhaliets and Alyssa Richter beat USC's No. 12 ranked pair of Lily Fairclough and Grace Piper 6-3 to even the field. With all eyes on court two to decide the doubles point, Trojans Sloane Morra and Jana Hossam would step up to the plate and down Memphis' Emily Mayer and Leonie Moeller 6-4 to claim the doubles point for the Trojans.
USC extended the one-point lead quickly in singles play as the Trojans claimed first sets on four courts. Freshman Jana Hossam continued her winning ways and delivered the first individual point of the day, defeating Emily Meyer in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 on court four to extend USC's lead.
Sophomore Lily Fairclough sought revenge in singles play, defeating Alyssa Richter 6-3, 6-2 on court three to avenge her doubles loss to Richter from earlier in the day.
Junior No. 81 Emma Charney delivered the clinch, beating Sofia Mykhaliets 6-3, 6-3 on court two to send the Trojans through to the second round of NCAA play. Today's clinch marked the 12th of Charney's career and her second this season.
