July 14, 2025 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The final day of the 2025 MLB Draft was held on Monday (July 14) and USC baseball's Caden Hunter and Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek were both selected.
Hunter was taken in the sixth round by the Baltimore Orioles and Martin-Grudzielanek was selected by the New York Yankees in the 20th round. The two selections come on the heels of Ethan Hedges being picked in the third round by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, giving USC three selections in the 2025 draft and 357 all-time draft picks.
Hunter came to USC as a junior college transfer prior to this season and made an immediate impact on the mound as the Trojans' opening day starter. The junior lefty was 6-6 on the year, with a 5.50 ERA in 70.1 innings pitched. Hunter was sixth in the Big Ten with 79 strikeouts and his 10.11 strikeouts per nine innings were tops on the team for USC.
Martin-Grudzielanek was a three-year starter for the Trojans after transferring from UCLA prior to the 2023 season. As a redshirt junior this past year, the USC shortstop slashed .294/.364/.433, with eight homers, seven doubles and one triple. His 41 RBI were third on the team and his 44 runs scored were third as well.
Over the course of three seasons at USC, Martin-Grudzielanek played in 136 games and made 128 starts, compiling 16 homers, 19 doubles and five triples, with 94 total RBI and 98 runs scored. He was also drafted in the 20th round of the 2024 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, but did not sign.
USC has an unparalleled tradition of producing MLB talent. In addition to the school's now 357 draft picks, 120 Trojans have made it to the Big Leagues, a number no other NCAA program can top. In total, Trojan alums boast 67 MLB All-Star appearances, 29 World Series appearances, nine Cy Young awards, three Hall of Famers, three Rookie of the Year Awards, one American League MVP and one World Series MVP.
