Cross Country Posts Strong Showing at Waves Invite

Newcomer Holli Prest led the Trojan squad placing 13th in her debut.
MALIBU, Calif – USC Cross Country made their first appearance of the season, and first meet under new coach Brenda Martinez, at the Pepperdine Waves Invite with all Trojans finishing in the top 30 out of 69 runners in the women's 4k.
The Women of Troy held in a pack for the first half of the looped course before showing their own strengths to compete for a top spot.
Holli Prest led all Trojans with a time of 14:19.7 to finish 13th in her first collegiate meet. The sophomore tracked down the runners ahead one-by-one in the back half of the race.
Prest was followed closely behind by Jacqueline Duarte who used the same technique to come away with 17th place and a time of 14:27.0.
Next in the pack came Haley Spoden and Isabella Duarte who held close to each other for much of the race. Spoden finished 25th in 14:44.1, an improvement on last year's results at the Waves Invite (36th, 14:49.7). Duarte came in just two seconds later with a time of 14:46.7 to finish in 28th.
The Trojans will be back in action at the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 27. Details will be made available on usctrojans.com and @usc_track_field on Instagram and X.
