Hall scores 23 points as JuJu Watkins and Jazzy Davidson add 18 apiece in exhibition victory
LOS ANGELES — Freshman Saniyah Hall delivered 23 points, six rebounds and five steals during her unofficial USC debut, helping the No. 3 Women of Troy secure a 78-76 exhibition victory over Cal on Sunday afternoon at the Galen Center.
Hall shot 9-for-13 from the floor and was joined in double figures by JuJu Watkins and Jazzy Davidson, who each scored 18 points. Davidson added a game-high seven assists and six rebounds, while Watkins contributed three rebounds, three steals and two blocks in 23 minutes of action.
After 580 days away from competition, Watkins made an immediate impact in her return to the court. The senior guard opened the scoring with a layup off an assist from Kennedy Smith just 14 seconds into the game. USC and Cal traded baskets throughout the opening frame, but a late 8-2 run gave the Trojans a 14-10 advantage heading into the second quarter. The Women of Troy held the Golden Bears to 3-for-17 shooting and without a 3-pointer in the first quarter.
The Trojans built their largest lead of the first half at 22-14 early in the second quarter, but Cal answered with an 11-2 run and eventually moved in front. Watkins erased a two-point deficit with a step-back jumper in the final seconds, sending the teams into halftime tied at 33-33. Davidson led all scorers in the second quarter with eight points on 4-for-5 shooting.
Hall quickly made her presence felt after halftime, scoring five points in the opening 3:10 of the third quarter. Her 3-pointer at the 6:50 mark gave USC a 40-39 lead, and Davidson later connected from beyond the arc to break a 46-46 tie. Smith and Ryann Bennett capped the period with consecutive baskets as the Trojans carried a 55-51 lead into the fourth.
USC extended its advantage to seven points twice in the final period, including at 67-60 after Hall intercepted a pass and raced the other way for a layup. Hall added another steal and transition basket less than a minute later, but Cal responded with an 8-2 surge to tie the game at 71-71 with 2:13 remaining.
Hall put USC back in front by sinking two free throws with 1:54 left. Laura Williams then came up with her third block of the game with 25 seconds remaining, and Smith converted a fast-break layup off Davidson's seventh assist to give the Trojans a 75-71 cushion.
Davidson went 3-for-4 at the line over the final 10 seconds to secure the two-point victory.
Williams finished with four points, six rebounds and a game-high three blocks, while Smith recorded six points, three assists and three steals. Sitaya Fagan added four points and three rebounds off the bench.
USC officially opens the 2026-27 season one week from Monday when the Trojans travel to Las Vegas to take on UNLV at T-Mobile Arena. The Women of Troy and Lady Rebels will clash on Monday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. PT on CBS Sports Network.
