USC sophomore recognized among the nation’s top point guards ahead of the 2026-27 season.
LOS ANGELES — USC sophomore guard Jazzy Davidson has been named to the 20-player preseason watch list for the 2027 Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday, October 26.Â
Now in its 28th year, the Nancy Lieberman Award recognizes the top point guard in NCAA Division I women's college basketball. Candidates must exhibit the floor leadership, playmaking and ball-handling skills that defined the career of Class of 1996 Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman.
Davidson enters her sophomore season following a decorated debut campaign in which she was named the USBWA Tamika Catchings National Freshman of the Year, WBCA NCAA Division I Freshman of the Year, The Athletic National Freshman of the Year and Big Ten Freshman of the Year. The Clackamas, Ore., native also earned All-Big Ten First Team, Big Ten All-Defensive Team and honorable mention All-America recognition from the Associated Press and USBWA.
The 6-foot-2 guard started all 32 games for USC and became the only Division I player to lead her team in all five major statistical categories, averaging 17.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. She was also the only player in Division I men's or women's basketball to average at least 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per contest.
Davidson opened the 2026-27 campaign with 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds in USC's 78-76 exhibition victory over Cal on Oct. 25 at the Galen Center.
Fan voting will be available during each of the award's three rounds beginning Friday, Oct. 30. The 20-player watch list will be narrowed to 10 candidates in late January and five finalists in late February. In March, the finalists will be presented to Lieberman and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, which is composed of women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.
