LOS ANGELES – For the second time this season, the USC baseball team picked up a seven-inning run-rule victory, beating LMU 14-4 on Wednesday evening at Dedeaux Field.

With the win, the Trojans move to 4-0 on the year, while LMU falls to 1-3.

After a scoreless first inning, USC scored in each of the last six frames, including a four-run fifth where the Trojans broke a 4-4 tie. A five-run sixth and one run in the seventh made it a 10-run lead after seven innings.

Jack Basseer drove in a game-high three runs, including a two-run homer to open the scoring in the second inning. Dean Carpentier and Richard Tejeda each had two-RBI games, as all nine USC starters drove in a run.

The Trojans took a 3-1 lead into the fourth, but the visiting Lions scored three in the top half of the inning to go up 4-3. Abbrie Covarrubias singled in a run to tie it in the fourth before USC broke it open with four in the fifth. Carpentier and Tejeda each had two-RBI knocks in the fifth.

Cameron Fausset picked up the win as the pitcher of record in the fifth and threw 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Paul Grossman came in with two runners on and one out in the sixth and got two popups to end the threat. Henry Chabot threw a scoreless seventh.
