Madison Whyte Named Women's NCAA Athlete of the Week
February 09, 2026 | Track & Field
Whyte ran the top time in the nation this season in the 400m
LOS ANGELES – The US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named Madison Whyte the Women's NCAA DI National Athlete of the Week for the week of February 9, 2026. Whyte is the first USC women's indoor track and field athlete to win the award since it first started in 2015.
The national recognition comes after Whyte ran a time of 50.82 in the indoor 400m at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. Whyte achieved the top time in the NCAA for the event this season, broke the facility record and recorded the second-fastest time in school history. Later the same day, Whyte ran a 50.21 split on the anchor leg of the women's 4x400m relay to overtake UCLA and secure the Women of Troy's first relay win of the season.
Last season, Whyte achieved four first-place finishes in the 400m, including a win at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. Whyte also competed as a member of the national champion 4x100m relay team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Whyte is only the second USC athlete and the first woman to win the award since Johnny Brackins Jr. received recognition three times between the 2024 and 2025 indoor seasons. A full list of winners from current and past seasons is available here.
Whyte and the USC track and field team return to Albuquerque this weekend in search of more national championship qualifying times. The Don Kirby Elite Invite begins Friday with live updates available on usctrojans.com and @usc_track_field on Instagram and X.
