Awoleye, Whyte Receive Big Ten Weekly Honors
April 08, 2026 | Track & Field
LOS ANGELES — The Big Ten conference announced Madison Whyte and Oluwatosin Awoleye as Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, following their personal-best performances at LSU Battle on the Bayou.
Whyte receives her second Big Ten weekly honor of the year after clocking the fastest times in the Big Ten this season in both the 200m and 400m. Her times rank No. 3 in the 200m (22.73) and No. 2 in the 400m (50.06) this season in the NCAA. Additionally, her 400m time is a new personal best and the second-fastest time in school history.
Awoleye placed second in her outdoor 800m collegiate debut at LSU Battle on the Bayou in a field of 32, earning Big Ten Women's Freshman of the Week. Her debut time of 2:02.21 broke the USC freshman record set 28 years ago by Brigita Langerholc and slots in at No. 3 in school history. Her run stands as the top time by a freshman in the Big Ten (No. 3 overall) and ranks No. 9 nationally this season. This is her second conference weekly honor of her collegiate career.
Trojans earning Big Ten honors this season are: Garrett Kaalund (Jan. 21, Feb. 11), Ashley Erasmus (Feb. 11), Racquil Broderick (Apr. 1), Jada Foreman (Apr. 1), Madison Whyte (Feb. 11, Apr. 8) and Oluwatosin Awoleye (Feb. 11, Apr. 8).
The Trojans will return to the track on April 16 for the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays, running until April 18. A full schedule of events for both meets can be found at usctrojans.com. Live updates will be available on Instagram and X @usc_track_field.
