USC Women’s Track and Field Breaks 4x100m Relay School Record, Erasmus Earns National Runner-up in Shot Put

The Women of Troy will compete in five track event finals on Saturday
EUGENE, Ore. — The USC women's track and field team dominated their first day of NCAA competition on Thursday at Hayward Field. Ashley Erasmus earned second place in shot put finals, and both 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams clocked top-three times in school history in the semifinal round on the track.
Erasmus represented on the field side for the day in dominant fashion. The sophomore threw for 18.14m (59-6.25) to secure national runner-up and first team all-American status, putting up eight points on the board for the Women of Troy.
On the track side, the women's 4x100m relay team of Dajaz DeFrand, Mia Brahe-Pedersen, Madison Whyte and Brianna Selby kicked off the day with a new school record and the No. 2 time in NCAA history at 41.96. They advanced to Saturday's final at the No. 1 spot looking to defend their national title from last season.
Brianna Selby advanced in the 100m with a fourth place finish in a time of 10.94. In the 200m, Dajaz DeFrand and Christine Mallard advanced to finals off their times of 22.36 and 22.55, respectively. Madison Whyte also earned her spot in the 400m final on Saturday, winning her heat and placing fifth overall in 50.73.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Christine Mallard, Joelle Trepagnier, Takiya Cenci and Madison Whyte ran the third fastest time in USC history to advance out of semifinals. Their time of 3:25.97 places them in fifth heading into finals.
