No. 12 USC Baseball Sets Program Record With 6-1 Win Over Long Beach State
March 10, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The No. 12 USC baseball team beat Long Beach State, 6-1, on Tuesday night at Dedeaux Field, moving to 16-0 on the year and setting a program record for the best start to a season in USC history.
Andrew Lamb homered early and the Trojan arms took care of business once again as USC surpassed the 1988 Trojan squad for the longest season-opening winning streak in program history. Long Beach State fell to 4-11 with the loss.
Lamb got the scoring started for the Trojans with a three-run homer in the second inning and then USC took a 4-0 lead on an RBI-single by Maximo Martinez in the third.
The Dirtbags' lone run came in the fourth inning on an RBI-single to right field, but Chase Herrell limited the damage with a flyout to end the threat. Herrell tossed 5.2 innings, giving up three hits and just the one run, while walking none and striking out seven batters. He moved to 2-0 with the victory.
Henry Chabot took over in the sixth, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings without giving up a hit or a walk. Chabot struck out three batters. Gavin Lauridsen worked a scoreless ninth, striking out two, including the final batter of the game.
USC's two insurance runs came in the eighth inning, when Lamb hit a sacrifice fly and Maddox Riske doubled home Isaac Cadena to make it 6-1. Lamb's four RBI were a career high for the junior.
USC's 16-game winning streak is not only the best start to a season in program history, but matches the second longest winning streak at any point in a season for USC. The program record for consecutive wins in a season is 19, set in 1955. USC teams have had 16-game winning streaks on four other occasions (2000, 1971, 1949, 1948).
