Basseer's Walk-Off Blast Powers Trojans Past CSU Bakersfield, 4-3
March 18, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – Jack Basseer hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to propel the No. 13 USC Trojans past CSU Bakersfield, 4-3, at home on Wednesday night.
The USC offense struggled to find its footing all game, but after a leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth, one swing by Basseer put the home team in front for the first time all night. The Trojans move to 21-1 on the season with the win, while the Roadrunners fall to 7-14.
Maximo Martinez worked a leadoff walk to start the ninth and after a flyout to center, Basseer turned on a 1-1 pitch and hit it 409 feet over the left field wall. It was his team-leading fifth homer of the year.
The Roadrunners grabbed a 2-0 lead on a two-run double in the third inning and then made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the fifth. USC finally got on the board with a pair of runs in the sixth, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Abbrie Covarrubias and a Bakersfield error.
Henry Chabot picked up the win as the pitcher of record in the ninth, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen without giving up a hit. Ben Cushnie worked 3.0 scoreless frames, allowing just one hit while striking out two.
