Johnny Dykstra and Sterling Foley Earn MPSF/Molten Player of the Week Awards
March 23, 2026 | Men's Volleyball
Trojans swept the conference weekly awards for the second time this spring and for the seventh time since 2022
LOS ANGELES – USC men's volleyball sophomore libero Johnny Dykstra (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) was named the MPSF/Molten Defensive Player of the Week, and sophomore outside hitter Sterling Foley (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar HS) was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Week for the week of March 16-22, the league announced on Monday, March 23.
The awards are the fifth and sixth won by Trojans this season and are the second-career awards for each player. Dykstra earned the same defensive honor on March 17, 2025, and Foley similarly was awarded the offensive award on April 21, 2025; both as freshmen. The double selections mark the seventh time that a pair of Trojans have swept the weekly awards since 2022. Last year, USC players earned MPSF weekly honors a total of eight times.
Foley averaged 3.58 points per set (3.00 kps) and hit .515 as he recorded his eighth and ninth matches in double-digit points. Foley had nine kills and hit a season-high .600 to go with five digs, three blocks, and a service ace in the first meeting with Jessup and then produced nine more kills with .444 hitting with five digs and an ace in the rematch. Foley also received 19 serves with a 1.000 passing percentage.
Dykstra put up an average of 2.67 digs per set in the pair of 3-0 sweeps over the Warriors. He had 10 digs in the teams' first meeting to log his 12th-career match in double digits and came back to add six digs in the rematch to help lift USC to a .462 hitting percentage. His defense in the first match helped hold Jessup to a -.098 hitting rate which was both the lowest of the season for the Warriors and the lowest by a USC opponent this spring.
Fourth-ranked USC (12-3, 4-2 MPSF) has won four straight matches including 12 consecutive sets and hosts Menlo (3-11, 2-3 MPSF) for back-to-back matches at Galen Center this week. The Trojans and the Oaks meet on Friday (March 27) for a 7 p.m. PT match and then do it again on Saturday (March 28) at 5 p.m. Both contests will be shown live on Big Ten Plus streams.
