The Trojans’ outside hitter is the 10th player in school history to earn first-team All-America laurels twice in his career
LEXINGTON, Ky. – USC men's volleyball senior outside hitter Dillon Klein (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Loyola HS) was chosen to the AVCA All-America first team as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Wednesday, May 6.
It is the second first-team nod for Klein who becomes the 10th player in program history to be chosen to the first team multiple times in their career; the first since All-American and Olympian setter Micah Christenson in 2014 and 2015. Klein—a four-time All-MPSF performer—was selected for All-America honorable mention twice previously (2023, '24). His certificate is the 36th all-time first-team award won by a Trojan and represents the sixth under head coach Jeff Nygaard.
Four Trojans were chosen for All-America honorable mention. Sophomore libero Johnny Dykstra (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS), sophomore outside hitter Sterling Foley(Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar HS), redshirt sophomore middle blocker Wesley Smith (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS), and sophomore middle blocker Parker Tomkinson (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) each received honorable mention.
Klein ranked second in the MSPF for kills (3.89 kps), points (4.61 pps), and attacks (7.78 aps); and was fifth in hitting percentage (.340) and 14th for service aces (0.35 saps). He was fifth in the NCAA for points and eighth in kills this season. He was named to the MPSF All-Conference first team and was chosen for the league's Offensive Player of the Week award three times (eight times in his career). Klein was also selected as the AVCA's National Player of the Week on April 7 which marked his third-career national weekly award. Klein—who served as a team captain this spring—concludes his illustrious USC career with 1,430 kills on 3,020 attacks, 88 service aces, 260 blocks, 493 digs, and a total of 1,666 points.
Dykstra led the team and ranked fourth in the MPSF for digs at 1.67 digs per set and put up four matches in double-digit digs this spring. Foley ranked 10th in the MPSF for points (3.36 pps) and was ninth for hitting percentage (.333). He averaged 2.69 kills per set and had 11 matches in double-digit kills. Smith ranked second in the MPSF for blocks (1.08 bps) and was an offensive force as well with 1.65 kills per set and .498 hitting. Tomkinson led the MPSF in blocks (1.17 bps) and ranked sixth nationally. He averaged 1.57 kills per set and hit .431. He produced a double-double with 13 kills and 12 blocks in the Trojans' thrilling MPSF semifinal victory over Pepperdine. All four Trojans were chosen at least once (Tomkinson twice) for MPSF Player of the Week honors this season.
The Trojans made their 16th appearance in the NCAA tournament and advanced to the regional final where they fell to site-host and No. 2-seeded Hawai'i in four sets. USC (20-8) finished as the runner-up for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's championship and was third in the final conference regular-season standings with a 9-5 record. 11th-year head coach Jeff Nygaard reached 20 wins in a season for the third time and collected his 143rd-career victory making him the third-winningest coach in program history behind only Bob Yoder (211 wins, 1982-89) and Bill Ferguson (150 wins, 2007-15).
