USC Lacrosse Makes Midwest Trek for No. 6 Wildcats, Chippewas

The Trojans will take on sixth-ranked Northwestern in a Big Ten game to be shown on B1G Network
LOS ANGELES – USC lacrosse (6-7, 0-5 Big Ten) seeks to end a five-game losing streak when it heads to the Midwest to take on No. 6 Northwestern (8-3, 2-1) on Saturday (April 4) in a game at Martin Stadium that will be shown live on Big Ten Network at 2 p.m. CT (noon PT). The Trojans then take on Central Michigan (2-9, 1-2 MAC) in a first-time meeting at the Chippewas' Lacrosse Complex in Mount Pleasant, Mich., on Monday (April 6) at noon ET (9 a.m. PT).

ALL-AMERICAN GIRLS: USC has celebrated 10 IWLCA All-America selections. Michaela Michael was the first-ever All-American selection as a third-team choice in 2015. Michael and defender Courtney Tarleton were each named to the first team in 2016, with midfielder Amanda Johansen chosen to the third team. Michael repeated for first-team honors in 2017 alongside defender Lydia Sutton who earned third-team recognition. Kerrigan Miller joined the ranks as a third-team choice in 2018 and was a second-team All-American in 2019. Kelsey Huff (2022) and Emma Wightman (2023) were each tabbed for third-team laurels.

TRIPLE-DOUBLE: There are three sets of twins on the USC roster. The eldest of the three sister duos are the Buntings. Junior attacker Emma Bunting and junior midfielder Lily Bunting are from Mount Laurel Township, N.J., just each of the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. Sophomore midfielders Alex May and Skylar May are both from Greenwood Village, Colo. And freshmen twin sisters Hadley Holland (an attacker) and Riley Holland (a defender) are both from Madison, N.J. Two other twin pairs have suited up in the Cardinal and Gold previously but were not on the roster at the same time. From 2014-16, Glade and Shannon Nugent played for the Trojans and then from 2020-21 twins Delaneyand Savannah Sweitzer played at USC.

EAST COAST BIAS: USC has played 49 games in the Eastern Time zone and is 23-26 overall. Since its inaugural season (2013), the Trojans have played at least one game in the Eastern Time zone every year. This spring, USC has played Big Ten opponents Johns Hopkins (March 19) and Maryland (March 22) on the East Coast and will take on Central Michigan (April 6) in a nonconference contest.

BIG HATS: Seven different Trojans have racked hat tricks through 10 games. Kaylee Fravert and Emma Bunting lead all players with three games each. Reese Robinson, Vivian Leuthold, and Alex May have each registered a pair of hat trick games. Hannah Barron and Hollis Mulry each have one. Leuthold scored a season-high four goals in USC's season opener against Cal and did it again against Niagara. Robinson's four-goal outburst at Arizona State (Feb. 28) and Bunting's four-goal performance against Penn State are the other two Trojan highs this spring.

DRAW ARTIST: Midfielder Anna Regan produced her ninth-career double-digit draw control game with 19 against Niagara (March 8). Her 303 career draw controls rank second in USC history and ranks 12th among active players nationally. She needs 119 to match USC's all-time leader Michaela Michael (2014-17) who had 422 draw controls in her illustrious career. This season, Regan ranks seventh in the Big Ten with 71 draw controls.

HOT DISH: Attacker Emma Bunting has handed out 23 assists (sixth in the Big Ten) this spring and also ranks sixth in the Big Ten for assists per game (1.92 apg). She had 18 assists as a sophomore in 2025 and now has 41 in her career.

BARRON OF BREAKUPS: Midfielder Hannah Barron has 12 caused turnovers (27 career) to date to tie for second most on the team. She has also picked up 18 ground balls for third on the team.

WHAT'S UP, GANG?!: Defender Sophie Gangemi leads the Trojans in both ground balls (25) and caused turnovers (15). She is tied for 11th in the Big Ten for caused turnovers (1.20 ctpg) and is tied for fifth in ground balls (1.80 gbpg). She registered career highs of four caused turnovers and five ground balls in games this season.

SISTER SITUATION: 11 pairs (one trio, technically) of sisters have suited up for the Trojans. Fraternal twins Glade and Shannon Nugent (2014-16) were the first and played in a total of 10 games together in three seasons. All-American Amanda Johansen (2013-16) was on the Trojans' inaugural team and graduated before younger sister Kelly Johansenjoined the team in 2017. The elder Johansen also served as one of Troy's assistant coaches in 2018. Midfielder Kaeli Huff was joined by sister Kelsey Huff. At the time, the Huffs comprised only the second sister pair to be together on the same roster for the Trojans. Gabby McMahon (2014-17) was an All-MPSF attacker before younger sister Izzy McMahon(Isabel) joined USC in 2018 following her transfer from Army. In 2021, Michaela McMahon joins the Trojans. The three McMahons are also the sisters of Daniella McMahon and Sophia McMahon; both played at Pac-12 rival Stanford.
