No. 22 USC Men's Tennis Tops Purdue 6-1 in Big Ten Opener

Trojans claim doubles point and five singles matches against Boilermakers.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 22 USC men's tennis delivered a strong performance on the road Friday, defeating Purdue 6-1 after securing the doubles point and winning five of six singles matches.The win marks USC's first conference victory of the season.Â
USC set the tone early by sweeping the completed doubles matches to take the opening point. On court one, Andrin Casanova and Jack McCarthy earned a 6-2 victory over Maj Premzl and Stefan Simeunovic. The point was clinched on court two, where Branko Djurvic and Max Exsted defeated Henrik Villanger and Nour Fathalla 6-3. The third doubles match featuring Pablo Hoyos and Nathan Trouve against Juan David Velasquez and Jacob Lee went unfinished at 5-5.
In singles play, USC quickly built momentum with a straight-sets win from Max Exsted on court three. Exsted defeated Stefan Simeunovic 6-2, 6-4 to put USC ahead 2-0.
Nathan Trouve followed with another decisive victory at the No. 2 position, defeating Henrik Villanger 6-4, 6-2 to extend the lead to 3-0.
Connor Church clinched the team victory on court six, battling past Jacob Lee 7-5, 6-3 to secure the fourth point and seal the match for USC.
With the match already decided, the Trojans continued to add to their total. Andrin Casanova earned a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6(8) win over Maj Premzl at the No. 4 position, while Branko Djurvic capped the afternoon with a pair of tiebreak victories against Nour Fathalla, winning 7-6(4), 7-6(6) on court one.
Purdue picked up its lone point at the No. 5 spot, where Juan David Velasquez edged USC's Niels Hoffman in a tight three-set match, 3-6, 7-5, 12-10.
With the victory, No. 22 USC improves to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten Play. The Trojans continue Big Ten play on Sunday against Indiana at 9 a.m. PT in Bloomington.Â
