USC Men’s Golf Wins the Wyoming Cowboy Classic
April 01, 2026 | Men's Golf
Luke Stock and Jack Buchanan tied for third to help the Trojans win their third tournament of the year.
MARICOPA, Ariz. — Led by Luke Stock and Jack Buchanan's top-three finishes, the USC Men's Golf team fended off several teams down the stretch to win the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, held at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. on Wednesday, April 1.
After resuming Tuesday's second round after play was suspended due to darkness, the Trojans outlasted the field on a hot, windy day at the par-72, 7,330-yard course to win with an 838 (-26). Buchanan and Stock tied for third with 206s (-10), which was Buchanan's second top-5 finish of the year and the best finish of the season for Stock. The win is USC's third of the year.
The afternoon's final round was a back-and-forth battle between the Trojans, GCU and runner-up Arkansas State, who made late pushes to try to topple the Trojans. Tied with Arkansas State heading into the final hole, three Trojans made par on the par-5 No. 3 and Stock had a birdie that pushed USC over the line.
"Really gutty performance by all five guys this week," Head Coach Mark Hankins said. "We knew we were the top-ranked team, but you still have to battle the golf course, the conditions, and your expectations. We are continuing to improve in all aspects and believe in each other. Jack and Luke were head-to-head for two straight days. They used that competitiveness and camaraderie to stay in the present and keep pushing on, resulting in two top-3 finishes individually."

Tied with Arkansas State heading into the final hole, three Trojans made par on the par-5 No. 3 and Stock had a birdie that pushed USC over the line.
Despite a difficult second-shot lie on a slope near a cart path and underneath two trees, Stock hit a great recovery shot that stopped just over the back of the par 5. He then cozied a delicate chip shot to four feet where he converted the birdie to not only clinch a tie with teammate Buchanan, but also seal the win for the Trojans.
"My initial thought was to just get good contact," Stock, whose parents flew from Oxted, England to watch him compete in the tournament, said. "I thought if I could get good contact on it, I could get it at least over the green. I did that, hit it over the green, and it was still a difficult chip and I managed to hit quite a nice soft chip."
Stock entered the day in a tie for third place with Buchanan, who tied for the lowest round of the day with a 70 (-2). Playing steady throughout the round, Buchanan had two birdies on the front side and one on the back side while finishing with just one bogey on the par-5 No. 7. Down the stretch, Buchanan stayed at par for the final seven holes, including a key par save on the par-5 No. 3 to wrap up the day.
"Everyone dug deep," Sophomore Jack Buchanan said. "We knew that it was going to be a tough finish. It was neck-and-neck with a couple of teams right down until the last hole and I'm just proud of how everyone fought at the end. We knew that every shot was very valuable and we kind of had a tough last five holes to finish on, so I'm just proud of the boys that we got our third team win of the season."
Fellow sophomore Jaden Dumdumaya made the biggest move of any Trojan during the final round. Tying Buchanan for the best final round of the day with a 70 (-2), Dumdumaya moved up 14 places into a tie for 14th place. He ran into trouble with back-to-back bogeys on the front side, but two birdies and an eagle on the par-4, No. 14 helped push his score below par. He finished with four birdies, an eagle and four bogeys to finish with a 212 (-4).
Senior Antonio Safa finished in a tie for 33rd place with a 215 (-1). During his 74 (+2) final round, the senior ran into trouble as he approached the turn with a bogey on No. 17 and a double-bogey on No. 1.
Rounding out the Trojans, freshman Raghav Gulati moved up seven places in his final round to finish in a tie for 77th with a 220 (+4).
The Trojans will play in their final regular-season tournament at the Western Intercollegiate, hosted by San Jose State at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. from April 13-15. All pertinent information can be found on the men's golf team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
