- USC was outhit for just the fourth time this season (.328 to .202) and was outpaced by the BYU offense, which had 62 kills and 61 assists to the Trojans' 46 kills and 44 assists. The Cougars also had more digs (37-36). USC reached double-digit blocks for the ninth time and out-blocked BYU, 14.0-8.5. The Trojans also had a slight edge in aces, 4-3, but won the service line by a 27-16 count (aces and errors combined).
- The Trojans pushed ahead in the opening frame to gain a two-point lead and were up, 21-19, before the Cougars went on a run to close out a 25-23 win on their 6-2 outburst. Both offenses struggled in the opening frame and BYU racked up nine service errors. Still, the Cougars scored 18.0 points over the Trojans' 10.5 to get the win. Klein and Tomkinson each had two kills apiece but USC's seven kills (4e, 21att) and .143 hitting paled in comparison to BYU's 16 kills (7e, 31att, .290).
- USC rolled out to an early 5-1 lead and then broke the sixth and final tie of the set (17-all) with a 4-0 run and evened the match with a 25-20 set-two win. Klein had five kills and Keane had four, but the Trojans still hit sub-200 with 12 kills (6e) on 38 attacks. Both teams had 3.5 blocks in the set, but the Trojans had more digs (15-13) with six from Blanchette alone to help hold the Cougars to a .083 hitting percentage. Both teams had three service errors in the frame, but USC had a 3-1 edge in service aces.
- BYU claimed the early lead in set three, but it would take 19 ties and six lead changes to decide a winner. In the end, the Cougars fought off set point down 24-23 and closed the books on their fourth set-point opportunity and took a 30-28 win to lead, 2-1, in the match. USC hit .441 and totaled 19 kills with five each from Klein and Tomkinson. Foley had four and Keane had three, but BYU was one step ahead with 23 kills and .571 hitting. Oldani had eight, Trevor Herget had seven, and Moser had six kills in the win. The teams were very much even elsewhere with three blocks each, eight digs each, and one service ace on each side of the net.
- The Trojans led set four, 4-3, but BYU used a 10-2 run to rip open a 20-12 lead and never let up on the way to a 25-18 win to claim the match. Klein had four kills and Foley had three, but the Trojans hit .000 with eight kills and eight errors on 26 attempts. On the other side, Herget, Moser, and Oldani each had four kills to lift BYU to a .391 hitting rate (13k, 4e, 23att) despite being turned away by four USC blocks.
- USC and BYU meet for a rematch at Smith Fieldhouse on Saturday (April 11) at 8 p.m. MT (7 p.m. PT) that will be shown live nationally on Big Ten Network.

- The Trojans moved to 3-2 in road matches this spring.
- USC's second eighth-match win streak of the season came to an end in the loss.
- The Trojans fell to 8-4 in matches against ranked opponents and to 1-4 against teams ranked in the top 10.
