No. 14 USC Baseball Powers Past Iowa, 6-3

After opening the series with a 9-2 victory on Friday night, the Trojans locked up their eighth series win thanks to some early offense and stout work by the bullpen. USC improves to 29-7 overall on the year and 12-5 in Big Ten play. Iowa falls to 18-14, 5-9.
The teams traded runs in the second inning before the Trojans broke the game open with four runs on three homers in the fourth. Augie Lopez and Andrew Lamb each had solo-homers, and Isaac Cadena hit a two-run shot to give USC a 5-1 lead.
Iowa cut into the Trojan advantage with a two-run homer from Gable Mitchell in the fifth, but Grant Govel settled back in and got the next three batters out to limit the damage. Govel picked up his seventh win of the year after tossing five innings and giving up just the three runs.
Gavin Lauridsen took over on the mound to start the sixth and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and one walk. Sax Matson worked a scoreless eighth before Adam Troy picked up his 10th save of the year with a scoreless ninth. Matson and Troy each struck out two batters in their lone innings of work.

The Trojans and Hawkeyes wrap things up on Sunday at 1 p.m. USC then travels to Long Beach State for a midweek matchup on Tuesday. Sunday's game will be broadcast live on B1G+ and Tuesday will be on ESPN+.
