Trojans dominate at Marks Tennis Stadium in milestone victory
LOS ANGELES - USC men's tennis delivered a dominant performance Friday afternoon at Marks Tennis Stadium, sweeping Penn State 7-0 to give head coach Brett Masi his 300th career win as a head coach.Â
USC (14-5 , 6-2) controlled the match from the outset, securing the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Max Exsted and Nathan Trouve set the tone with a 6-2 victory, followed by Connor Church and Pablo Robledo clinching the point with a 6-3 decision.
The Trojans carried that momentum into singles play, where they claimed all six courts in straight sets to complete the shutout.
Connor Church was first off the court, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 5 position to double USC's lead. Branko Djuric followed with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 victory on court one, and Max Exsted clinched the team win shortly after with a 6-3, 6-3 result at the No. 2 spot.
With the match decided, USC continued to pile on. Andrin Casanova battled to a 7-6(2), 6-3 win at No. 4, Jack McCarthy added a 6-0, 7-6(3) victory on court three, and Niels Hobmann closed out the sweep with a 7-6(2), 6-2 decision at No. 6.
The victory marks a significant milestone for Masi, who becomes the latest Trojan head coach to reach 300 career wins, further cementing his impact on the program.
USC will look to carry its momentum into a marquee matchup against No. 1 Ohio State on Sunday as the Trojans continue Big Ten play at home. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT.Â
