Trojans look to defend home courts with Masi nearing 300-win milestone.
LOS ANGELES - USC men's tennis returns home to Marks Tennis Stadium this weekend, hosting Big Ten opponents Penn State and No. 1 Ohio State in a pivotal stretch of conference play. The Trojans (13-5) are coming off a strong 4-1 win over Michigan and look to carry that momentum into two key matchups on their home courts this weekend.Â
USC opens the weekend against Penn State (14-8) on Friday afternoon, which enters after a 6-1 loss to No. 14 Illinois. The Nittany Lions do not feature any nationally ranked singles or doubles players but have shown depth throughout the lineup. The Trojans hold a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series and will aim to extend that mark while protecting home court.
The spotlight then shifts to a marquee showdown on Sunday with No. 1 Ohio State (19-3), one of the nation's most dominant teams this season. The Buckeyes, who face UCLA prior to their trip to Los Angeles, bring a five-match win streak and 10 ranked victories into the weekend. Ohio State boasts a loaded lineup, including five ranked singles players—No. 11 Aidan Kim, No. 20 Jack Anthrop, No. 23 Preston Stearns, No. 41 Alex Okonkwo and No. 75 Nikita Filin—along with four ranked doubles teams, highlighted by the No. 2 pair of Brandon Carpico and Filin.
For USC, the weekend also presents a milestone opportunity for head coach Brett Masi, who enters play with 299 career wins. One more victory would mark his 300th as a head coach, adding another achievement to his tenure with the Trojans.
With postseason play on the horizon, USC will look to capitalize on its home-court advantage at Marks Stadium this weekend. First serve on Friday is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT, while Sunday's showdown will commence at 1 p.m. PT.Â
