The Women of Troy will open their regionals slate tomorrow
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The USC men's track and field team kicked off four days of competition at John McDonnell Field with three throwers punching their ticket to NCAA Championships and four more Trojans qualifying for Friday's quarterfinal track events. Tom Tersek highlighted the day with a new freshman record in javelin to advance to Eugene.
After weather delays pushed Tersek's javelin flight back to 10:30 p.m., he proceeded to throw for fourth place out of the third flight with a mark of 74.54m (244-7). The rain did not stop Tersek as he broke Henrik Kjaereng's freshman record (under the new javelin implement) of 69.20m (227-0) from 1997. His mark also slots him at No. 4 in USC history.
The Lampinen brothers got the day started with two qualifying spots in hammer throw to head to Eugene. Mico Lampinen placed sixth with a mark of 68.99m (226-4) while Max Lampinen at 65.47m (214-9) achieved 11th place to advance.
On the track side, four Trojans advanced to Friday's quarterfinal rounds in 100m, 200m, 400m and 400m hurdles. Edward Nketia claimed spots in the 100m and 200m, leading the field in the 100m at 9.99 (+2.5 m/s) and claiming a top-three spot in the 200m at 20.51.
Jack Stadlman and Jake Andrews got automatic qualifying spots for Friday out of their 400m heats, running 45.44 and 46.36, respectively. Yougendy Mauricette also picked up the automatic spot in Friday's quarterfinal with a time of 50.18 in the 400m hurdles.
The Women of Troy continue the action tomorrow as the women's events begin at 9 a.m. with hammer throw. A full schedule can be found at usctrojans.com. Live updates will be available on Instagram and X @usc_track_field with streaming available on ESPN+.
