Jaden Dumdumaya and Jack Buchanan were USC’s All-Big Ten honorees.
ROSEMONT, Ill. — USC Men's Golf sophomore Jaden Dumdumaya was named the Big Ten Player of the Year, while fellow sophomore Jack Buchanan earned First Team All-Big Ten honors, as announced by the conference on Wednesday, May 6.
Dumdumaya is the first USC men's golfer to be named the Big Ten Player of the Year, plus he is the program's tenth-ever conference player of the year. He also earned First Team All-Big Ten Honors. This is the first First Team All-Big Ten honor of Buchanan and Dumdumaya's careers.
After a breakout sophomore season that saw him become one of the team leaders, Dumdumaya was named the Big Ten Player of the Year after winning the Les Bolstad Award for the Big Ten player with the lowest stroke average earlier this week. The sophomore from Benecia, Calif. leads the team with a 69, plus he tied the second-lowest round in school history twice with 63s at the Trinity Forest and Valspar Collegiate Invitationals. He leads the team with eight top-25 finishes and five top-10 finishes.
A Big Ten All-Freshman team selection from a year ago, Buchanan also had a breakout sophomore campaign, highlighted by a strong month of April. The Cape Town, South Africa native picked up his first collegiate win at the Western Intercollegiate to help the Trojans earn the team title. In that tournament, he tied the lowest round in program history and the Pasatiempo Golf Course record with a 62 in the second round. Heading into NCAA Regionals, Buchanan has placed in the top three or better in his last three tournaments. All told, Buchanan has six top-25 finishes and four top-10 finishes this year.
In addition to his honors, Dumdumaya was named USC's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner for the second consecutive year.
The Trojans will learn their postseason fate today during the NCAA Men's Golf Championship Selection Show, which airs on the Golf Channel at 11:00 a.m. PT. All pertinent information can be found on the men's golf team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
