No. 18 USC Baseball Wins 40th Game With 11-3 Victory Over Nevada

With the win, USC also set a program record with its 31st home victory of the season, moving to 31-1 at Dedeaux Field. Nevada falls to 23-23 with the loss.
Grant Govel gave up just two runs in 6.0 innings of work on Friday and the Trojans scored seven of their 11 runs in the first three innings. Dean Carpentier, Jack Basseer and Andrew Lamb all homered in the game, with Basseer and Lamb going back-to-back for the second straight game.
Two sac flies got USC on the board in the first, but Nevada would match that total in the second to tie it up. Carpentier's solo-shot broke the tie and Isaac Cadena and Kevin Takeuchi followed with RBI's to make it a 5-2 game.
Lamb and Basseer's back-to-back shots in the third gave the Trojans a five-run lead. USC put the game further out of reach with four runs in the sixth as Cadena and Takeuchi again drove in runs, and Basseer doubled home a pair.
Govel moved to 10-1 with the victory, becoming the first Trojan pitcher since Ian Kennedy in 2005 to win at least 10 games. The sophomore righty struck out seven and walked one on the day.
Gavin Lauridsen picked up the save on Friday, tossing the final 3.0 innings, giving up one run on one hit, while striking out three.
In two games against the Wolf Pack, Basseer has five hits and five RBI, with two homers and three doubles.
