No. 20 USC Women's Volleyball Sweeps No. 12 Sun Devils in Season Opener

The Trojans got 14 kills and nine digs from OH London Wijay in a victory over Arizona State
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The 20th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (1-0) collected a 3-0 sweep (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) of No. 12 Arizona State (2-1) to open the 2026 season at the State Farm Volleyball Showcase at the Sanford Pentagon on Saturday, Aug. 29.

- RS Jr. OH London Wijay led all scorers with 16.5 points earned on 14 kills (2e, 35att) with .343 hitting and a career-high five blocks. She also had nine digs to register the second most by a Trojan.
- So. OPP Abigail Mullen scored 14.0 points on 10 kills (4e, 21att, .286), two aces, and four blocks, to go with five digs.
- RS Sr. OH Adonia Faumuina totaled nine kills (2e, 20att) to hit .350 and added six digs and a block.
- Jr. MB Mia Tvrdy delivered the match-clinching kill and finished with six (1e, .357) on 14 attacks with four blocks.
- In her first match as a Trojan, Jr. S Lilli Etter handed out 36 assists to guide the Women of Troy to a .301 hitting percentage and added four digs, two service aces, and a block.
- So. LIB Taylor Deckert had a match-high 10 digs to go with three assists.
- RS Jr. MB Leah Ford totaled five blocks and added three kills.
- For the Sun Devils, Una Vajagic led with 13 kills and added nine digs and a pair of service aces for 15.5 points. Noemie Glover had eight kills but was held to negative .030 hitting. Elle Mottola put up 23 assists and had nine digs. Aniya Clinton scored eight kills but was kept in check with .074 hitting.
- USC hit .301 over Arizona State's .143 and had more kills (42-36) and blocks (10.0-8.0) than the Sun Devils. Both teams had five aces apiece but ASU had a slight edge in digs, 39-37.
- The Trojans built an early lead in the opening frame and maintained distance despite a late push from Arizona State. The Devils forced a fourth tie at 23-all but back-to-back errors closed out a 25-23 win for USC, which overcame seven service errors in the victory. Wijay delivered five of her kills while Faumuina had four in the opening set. Deckert had four digs and Etter put up 14 assists to set the Trojans to a .361 hitting rate (16k, 3e, 36att).
- USC led by as many as six points and was never tied in a 25-21 second-set win to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Trojans hit .406 and had just one error on 32 swings (14k) as Etter collected 12 more assists. Mullen was unstoppable in set two as she racked seven kills (0e) on 10 attacks. Faumuina, Tvrdy, and Wijay each added two kills.
- Arizona State came out guns blazing in the third and opened a six-point lead at 10-4, but the Trojans stayed the course and went in front, 13-12, on a 7-1 run that culminated in a service ace by Etter and a block from Faumuina and Tvrdy. ASU replied later with a 4-0 run to lead by three, 20-17, but back-to-back aces from Mullen brought the Trojans within a point (20-21) before three straight kills as part of an 8-2 run to end the match sewed up the sweep for USC.
- USC takes on No. 13 Creighton (0-1) at the Sanford Pentagon to close the State Farm Showcase in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Sunday (Aug. 30). The Trojans and Bluejays meet at noon CT (10 a.m. PT) and will be carried live by Big Ten Network.
- USC improved to 77-15-1 all-time against Arizona State. The teams met for the first time since 2023 when the Trojans collected a 3-0 sweep of the Devils in both programs' final season as members of the Pac-12.
- The Trojans moved to 41-10 all-time in season openers; 4-3 under seventh-year head coach Brad Keller. USC also goes to 28-8 in season openers played on the road or at neutral sites.
- USC played its first match in the state of South Dakota.
- The Women of Troy collected their first win over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 20 Minnesota on Nov. 1, 2025; a five-set victory over the Golden Gophers in Minneapolis.
- USC has swept each of its last three season-opening opponents: at Pepperdine (2024) and vs. Denver (2025).
- The Trojans swept a ranked opponent first time since taking a 3-0 win over 13th-ranked Creighton (Sept. 7, 2025). It is USC's first sweep of a ranked opponent in a season opener since 2004 (3-0 vs. No. 12 Georgia Tech, Aug. 27, 2004).
