No. 2 USC Women’s Golf Wins the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Historic Fashion

USC’s -47 (817) broke the tournament and program record by two strokes, which they set last year.
WOLCOTT, Colo. — In just its second tournament of the season, the No. 2 USC women's golf team has made history.
The Trojans set the program's tournament team record with a -47 (817) to win the Golfweek Red Sky Classic at the Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo. on Wednesday.
USC beat the previous program and tournament record of -45 by two strokes after firing a 274 (-14) in the third round at the par-72, 6,383-yard course. The team's -47 is also the best score by any women's college golf team in the nation so far this season.
"This group should be so proud of their performance this week," Head Coach Justin Silverstein said. "Playing at altitude this high is extremely difficult, especially early in tournaments, and their disciplined preparation paid off."
"This was a true team effort, 1-through-5, with everyone playing a huge part in this record-setting performance," Silverstein added. "We're looking forward to getting back to work and preparing for a huge event at Stanford."
USC finished 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Miami (-33, 831), while Pepperdine and Texas A&M were one stroke behind for third and one stroke ahead of fifth-place LSU. Miami's Scarlett Schremmer took home medalist honors with a -17 (199), while Pepperdine's Eusenio Choi was the runner-up with a -14 (202).
Three Trojans ended up in the top 10, led by Jasmine Koo, who tied for third with a 204 (-12). Sarah Hammett (-11, 205) tied for fifth, while Kylie Chong (-10, 206) joined her in a tie for 10th. Only Pepperdine, which tied for third, had three players in the top 10.
With a 66 (-6) in the final round, Koo fared the best out of the Trojans on Wednesday. She had four birdies on the front side before carding her lone bogey on the par-4 No.12. The junior closed out the back side with three birdies in the final five holes to jump five spots in the leaderboard.
Sophomore Sarah Hammett's 205 (-11) set her collegiate best and was good for a shared fifth-place finish. The Australian fired her third round under par of the tournament with a 70 (-2) in the final, which included playing bogey-free golf for the first 10 holes. After three birdies on the front side, Hammett ran into trouble with a bogey on No. 11 before offsetting that with a birdie on No. 15. Her second bogey of the round came on No. 18.
Junior Kylie Chong finished in a tie for 10th with a 206 (-10) after firing a 70 (-2) in the final round. She finished with four birdies to just two bogeys.
Freshman Kaili Xiao finished her collegiate debut in a tie for 15th with a 209 (-7) after firing an even-par 72 in the final round. Her 209 (-7) is the best collegiate debut by any Trojan under Silverstein since Cindy Kou's 208 in the 2021-22 season. Overall, Xiao's 209 is the third-best debut by a Trojan in the Silverstein era, trailing Kou and Malia Nam's 204 to open the 2018-19 season. Xiao had five birdies in her final round, yet found trouble with a pair of double-bogeys and a bogey.
Finishing in the top 20, senior Bailey Shoemaker tied for 19th with a 210 (-6) after firing her best round of the tournament with a bogey-free 68 (-4). Her final round had two birdies on the front and back sides to help her rise three spots in the leaderboard.
Competing as an individual, junior Elise Lee tied for 40th with a 215 (-1). She fired an even-par 72 in the final round to give USC all six players finishing under par.
The Trojans will be back in action for a highly anticipated clash between Stanford, the nation's top team, at the Stanford Invitational from Oct. 16-18. All pertinent updates can be found on the women's golf team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
