USC Cross Country Takes Home Second at Pepperdine Waves Invite

MALIBU, Calif. - The USC cross country team started their season strong Friday morning at the Pepperdine Waves Invite. The Women of Troy had four top-10 finishers and finished second as a team.
The Trojans had five athletes run in the women's 4k, including four freshmen making their collegiate debuts. Freshman Monserrat Santillan Silva led the way for the USC and took home second place overall, running a time of 13:41.4.
Fellow freshman Ivanka Malysheva came in fifth with a time of 14:05.8.
The lone returning runner for USC was senior Paige Unger who came in seventh with a time of 14:30.3. She was closely followed by freshman Alexandra Sparno finished in eighth, racing 14:34.1
Freshman Emilia Gonzalez rounded out the meet for the Trojans, coming in 27th place with a time of 16:06.1.
The Trojans will return to the race course for the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 26 at 7:15 a.m.
