Bio
2025: Maiava, who took over the Trojan offense at the end of the 2024 season, returns as USC’s starting quarterback as a redshirt junior in 2025.
2024: After transferring from UNLV, Maiava took over the starting quarterback role for USC’s final 4 games of the season. In 2024, he saw action in 7 games with 4 starts. He completed 101-of-169 passes (59.8%) for 1,201 yards and 11 TDs with 6 INTs, plus he rushed for 45 yards and 4 TDs. He was named to the Polynesian Player of the Year Award Watch List.
He hit 72.7% of his passes (8-of-11) for 66 yards with no picks against Utah State. He also ran 7 yards on 1 carry for a TD. He also recorded 1 carry for 7 yards against Wisconsin. Maiava rushed for 13 yards on 1 carry versus Rutgers. In his first start against Nebraska, he went 25-of-35 (71.4%) for 259 yards and 3 TDs and 1 INT. He also rushed for 20 yards on 5 carries with 1 TD. He went 19-of-35 (54.3%) for 221 yards and 1 TD versus UCLA. He also rushed for -9 yards on 4 carries. Maiava went 27-of-49 (55.1%) for a season-high 360 yards and 3 TDs and 2 INTs against Notre Dame. He also rushed for 11 yards on 5 carries with 2 TDs. In the Las Vegas Bowl against Texas A&M, he hit 56.4% of his passes (22-of-39) for 295 yards with 4 TDs and 3 INTs. He also rushed for -4 yards on 3 carries and caught 1 pass for -3 yards.
UNLV: As a redshirt freshman in 2023, Maiava led UNLV to its most wins since 1984 and a first-ever appearance in the Mountain West Championship. He completed 224-of-353 passes (63.5%) for 3,085 yards and 17 TDs with 10 INTs, plus he rushed for 277 yards on 73 carries (3.8 avg.) and scored 3 TDs while seeing action and starting in all 14 games. He also recorded 2 tackles. Maiava was named the 2023 Mountain West Freshman of the Year and the 2023 College Football Network Freshman Quarterback of the Year. He earned placement on the 2023 All-Mountain West Second Team and the 2023 Phil Steele All-Mountain West Second Team. He set the Mountain West record for Freshman of the Week honors with five.
Maiava redshirted the 2022 season and did not see any action at quarterback.
HIGH SCHOOL: Maiava, a three-star recruit, was ranked the No. 23 quarterback in the nation by ESPN, No. 52 by On3 and No. 62 by 247Sports. He was named Second Team All-Southern Nevada by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
As a senior at Liberty (Nev.) HS in 2021, he led the Patriots to the state title game. He threw 2,027 yards and 24 TDs and ran for 3 TDs himself. He earned All-League First Team honors.
As a junior in 2019, he prepped at Kaimuki (Hawaii) HS where he threw for 3,317 yards and 41 TDs. He also played at Kaimuki a sophomore.
As a freshman in 2018, he prepped at Sierra Vista (Nev.) HS.
PERSONAL: He is majoring in Communication at USC. While at UNLV, Maiava earned placement on the Fall 2023 Academic All-Mountain West Team. His uncle is former Trojan linebacker, Kaluka Maiava.
