THIS SEASON: Ralf Tribuntsov, an Estonian national teamer who owns six individual national records, is a 2018 senior, back as one of the NCAA's top sprint combo backstroker and freestylers. He is a career seven-time All-American and a Pac-12 champion who is USC’s school-record holder in the 100y back and is among Troy’s all-time top 5 in the 50y and 100y free and 100y fly. He helped set USC records in the 200y and 400y free relay and the 200y and 400y medley relays.
2017: Tribuntsov was a three-time All-American as a 2017 NCAA Championships, highlighted by a fifth-place finish in the 100y back (45.13, 45.00 in prelims) while helping USC’s 400y medley (fourth) and free relays reach the A finals as well. He scored for the second time in the 100y free, taking 15th (42.76, 42.33 in prelims) and tied for 19th in the 50y free with a PR 19.35 … At the 2017 Pac-12s, he was third in the 100y back (45.60) and won the B finals of the 50y (19.66) and 100y free (43.13), both in season-best efforts. He was also part of USC’s 400y medley relay that broke a school record and the second-place 400y free relay … He represented Estonia at the 2017 FINA World Championships, finishing 25th in the 100m back and 34th in the 50m back.
2016: Tribuntsov posted a career-best fifth at the NCAA Championships in the 100y back while winning his first career Pac-12 crown in the race as well. At the NCAAs, he took fifth in the 100y back in 45.57 and was 15th in the 100y free (42.96, PR 42.51 in prelims). He was also 21st in the 100y fly (46.27) ... At the 2016 Pac-12s, Tribuntsov won the Pac-12 title in the 100y back with a 45.57 (45.30 in prelims), winning by 0.15. It was USC's first win in the race since Olympic champion Lenny Krayzelburg won it back-to-back in 1997-98 and was USC's 14th victory overall in the event. Also at the Pac-12s, he was third in the 100y free (43.14) and fifth in the 50y free (19.74) while leading off USC's second-place 200y medley relay and fourth-place 200y and 400y free relays, the former with a PR 19.58 in the 50.
2015: Tribuntsov was a three-time All-American as a 2015 freshman, highlighted by helping USC win the 400y free relay at the NCAA Championships, swimming the third leg. He also was part of USC's fifth-place 200y free relay and finished eighth in the 100y back (45.61). He swam on USC's 10th-place 400y medley relay and was 22nd in the 100y free (42.89) and 26th in the 100y fly (46.65) ... He was a three-time 2015 Pac-12 finalist, finishing second in the 100y back in 45.27 after going a school-record 44.95 in prelims (with a time that would have won the final). He was also third in the 100y fly (45.96) with a time that made him the second-fastest Trojan ever in the race and then finished fifth in the 100y free in 42.88. His prelim 42.66 made him the fourth-fastest Trojan in the race. Tribuntsov also led off both of USC's Pac-12 titles in the 400y medley and free relays ... He represented Estonia at the 2015 World Championships and swam in six events, highlighted by a 21st in the 50m back.
ESTONIA: Shortly before enrolling at USC, Tribuntsov had a banner meet at the 2014 Estonia Nationals, winning five individual events and posting five relay titles. Individually, he won the 50m and 100m back, the 50m and 100m fly and the 100m free. His 24.25 in the 50m fly was a national record and his 25.74 in the 50m back tied his national record ... He was a finalist at the 2013 European Short Course Championships, finishing eighth in the 100m back. He was a two-time semifinalist in the 50m and 100m free at the 2012 European Short Course meet.
PERSONAL: He was born Sept. 22, 1994 and he is majoring in environmental studies.
