Matt LaSance has been named a volunteer assistant coach with the USC men's volleyball program, Trojan head coach Jeff Nygaard announced on Sept. 5.

LaSance, 22, spent the 2018 season as a men's assistant coach at Sacred Heart after serving as an assistant with Central Connecticut's women in 2017, helping the Blue Devils advance to the Northeast Conference Tournament championship match.

He was a setter at Rivier (2014-17), as the Raiders won the Great Northeast Athletic Conference title in 2014. He was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team as a 2017 senior. In his career, he had 1,138 assists, 158 digs, 63 aces, 42 kills and 29 blocks. A 4-time Academic All-GNAC honoree, he received his bachelor's degree in business management from Rivier in 2017.

While at Rivier, he assisted in volleyball-related activities with the Granite Coast Volleyball Club, Mill City Volleyball Club, Daniel Hand High School and the Madison Beach and Recreation Department.

He is a native of Madison, Conn., where he attended Daniel Hand High and played volleyball and basketball. He made the 2013 All-State team in volleyball.

He was born Sept. 15, 1995. Â He is single.
