THIS YEAR: Sophomore Jacob Andrews is in his second season as a sprinter on the USC track and field team. He has run on two of USC's all-time top 10 indoor 4x400m relays and one of its outdoor 4x400m relays, earning All-America honors in 2024 with both.
2024: Andrews had a season-best 400m time of 46.21 to place fourth at the Oxy Invitational on May 4. He reached the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the 400m. He went on to earn first-team All-America honors outdoors with the men’s 4x400m relay which ran 3:02.68 to place eighth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 7. They also ran 3:02.29 in the semifinals on June 5, the seventh-fastest time in school history. He set his indoor 400m PR of 46.92 in placing third at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Meet. Andrews ran on the fourth and sixth-fastest indoor 4x400m relays in USC history. He ran the third leg on USC’s 4x400m relay which earned All-America honors by placing seventh with a time of 3:04.67 at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 9, the fourth-fastest time ever by a Trojan indoor relay team.
HIGH SCHOOL: Andrews is a 2023 graduate of Sehome High in Bellingham, Wash. He has personal bests in the 100m of 10.47, the 200m of 20.97 and the 400m of 45.91. His 400m time ranked fifth among graduating high school seniors. He placed third at the 2023 Nike Outdoor Nationals in the 200m with a time of 21.10, after running his PR of 20.97 in the prelims. He placed second in the 400m at the USATF U20 Championships with his PR of 45.91. As a senior, Andrews helped lead Sehome to its second consecutive team title by winning the WIAA 2A 100m title with a time of 10.56, the 200m with a time of 21.21 and the 400m with a time of 46.89, while anchoring the 4x100m relay to the title…his 200m and 400m times set 2A state records, which he bettered later in the year. In his junior season he won the 200m, 400m and with the 4x400m relay and took second in the 100m to lead the Marines to the 2A Washington state team title. He also won the 2022 Nike Outdoors 400m title and the 2022 USATF Junior Olympics 400m title.
PERSONAL: Jacob was born on October 2, 2004 in Anchorage, Alaska…His parents are Melinda Lewis and Ed Starinchak and he has one brother, Josh…His favorite musical artist is Drake…His favorite food is chicken burritos…Someday would like to travel to Paris…Lists Noah Lyles as his sports hero because he is not afraid to be himself and is passionate about growing the sport…He has been involved with the Ready-Set-60 sprinters club…He is a Business major at USC.
