Bio
THIS YEAR:
Junior Karyssa Owens is in her first season as a thrower the USC track and field team, after competing for two seasons at UC Riverside.
BEFORE USC: Owens competed in track and field at UC Riverside from 2022-24. She has personal bests of 183-1 (55.80m) in the hammer throw, 163-7 (49.86m) in the discus throw and 48-4 (14.73m) in the shot put. Owens scored in all three events at the Big West Championships in both seasons at UCR. She placed second in the hammer throw at the 2024 Big West Championships with her PR of 183-1. She won the hammer throw at the 2024 Vince O’Boyle Classic and at the 2024 RCC Invitational.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Owens is a 2022 graduate of Eleanor Roosevelt High in Eastvale, Calif. She had personal bests of 146-3 in the discus throw and 41-1.50 in the shot put. She earned two CIF Division 1 finals appearances in the shot put and discus. She was a two-time Big VIII discus champion and the 2022 Big VIII shot put champion. As a senior, she was named to Redwood Empire Running State Prep Best list for discus

Karyssa was born on Jan. 26, 2004 in Fresno, Calif…Her mother is Yolanda Owens…Karyssa’s interests include gymnastics and dancing…Her favorite musical artists are Beyonce and SZA…Her favorite food is Alfred...Someday would like to travel to Greece… Lists Simone Biles as her sports hero…After she graduates she would like to become a radiologist… She is a Biological Sciences major at USC.
