THIS YEAR:
Freshman Luke Metcalf is in his first season as a distance runner on the USC track and field team.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Metcalf is a 2024 graduate of St. Francis High in La Canada. He set his 800m PR of 1:54.45 at the Mt. SAC Relays and has a 1500m best of 4:02.50. He placed seventh in the 800m at the 2024 CIF Southern Section with a time of 1:56.01. He owns the St. Francis record in the 800m and in the one-mile race, with his PR of 4:16.93. He was a two-time Division 4 California state team champion with the St. Francis cross country team.
PERSONAL:
Luke was born on June 2, 2006 in La Canada, Calif.…His parents are Katie (Haller) and Scott Metcalf and he has two brothers, Gabe and Eric…His mother Katie Haller Metcalf, who played on the USC women’s volleyball team (1990-93) and won the following honors: 1993 All-American first team, 3-time (1991-93) All-Conference, 1993 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, two-time (1992-93) CoSIDA Academic All-American first team, 3-time (1991-93) All-Conference All-Academic first team, 1994 NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship recipient, still ranks in the USC career Top 10 in kills, digs, aces (as of start of 2024 season)…His father Scott, played men’s volleyball at George Mason (1988-92). He owns the school career and season records for blocks and is in the Top 5 in career and season kills. He led the team in hitting percentage in 1990 and 1991, in blocks in 1990 and in aces in 1991. He was a 3-time (1990-92) All-Conference first teamer…His brother, Gabe, is a sophomore on the George Mason men’s volleyball team…Luke’s hobbies include chickens, disc golf, swimming and hiking…His favorite musical artists are Juice WRLD and Ken Carson and his favorite TV show is The Mandalorian…He says his favorite chicken breeds are Dominique and Silkie…Lists Cole Hocker as his sports hero as his performance as an underdog at the Paris Olympics was inspiring…Metcalf is a Human Biology major at USC and would like to go medical school.
