THIS YEAR: Junior Matteo Mitchell is in his third year as a thrower for the USC track and field team.
2024: Mitchell improved over 20 feet in the hammer throw during his sophomore season and advanced to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the event. He placed 12th in the hammer throw at the Pac-12 Championships with a mark of 195-9 (59.66m) on May 11. He set his hammer throw PR of 203-8 (62.08m) to grab third place at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 27. During the 2024 season, all seven meets in which he competed he threw farther than his personal best entering the season.
PERSONAL: Matteo was born on Dec. 22, 2003…His parents are Julie and Paul Mitchell.

2023: Mitchell competed in five meets during the outdoor season. He recorded his personal best in the hammer throw of 183-4 (55.89m) to place seventh at the Trojan Invitational on April 7. He finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 175-0 (53.34m) at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 30.
HIGH SCHOOL: Mitchell is a 2022 graduate of Clayton Valley High in Concord, Calif. He had a personal best in the 12-pound hammer throw of 190-6.25 to take third at the USAF Junior Olympic Championships. He also had high school PRs of 154-4 in the 1.6 kg discus and 50-10.50 in the 12-pound shot put. He is the Clayton Valley HS record-holder in the hammer throw, ranks fifth in the discus throw and sixth in the shot put.
