THIS YEAR:
Freshman Rachael Uvieghara (Ray-chell OO-Vee-AY-garuh) is in her first season as a sprinter on the USC track and field team.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Uvieghara, from Dunedin, Fla., is a 2024 graduate of Palm Harbor University High in Palm Harbor, Fla. She has personal bests of 11.37 in the 100m and 23.17 in the 200m. She was the 2024 PCAC Athlete of the Year, a six-time All-American, three-time national champion and four-time Florida state champion. Uvieghara won the 100m and 200m titles at the 2023 and 2024 Florida 4A state championships. She won the 2024 Nike Nationals 100m title and placed second in the 200m. She was a four-time Joseph L. Carwise Award recipient. She was the Florida track and field freshman of the Year in 2021.
PERSONAL:
Rachael was born on Sept. 12, 2005 in Dunedin, Fla..…Her parents are Godwin and Alero Uvieghara and she has two siblings, Giselle and Michelle…Her hobbies include double bass, reading, writing, math games, Kalimba, knitting and braiding…Lists her favorite actors as Tom Hanks, Quinta Brunson and Morgan Freeman, favorite movie as Forest Gump and favorite musical artists as Frank Ocean, Davido, Tems, CAS, The Neighborhood, SZA, Billie Eilish and The Weeknd…Says Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is her sports hero because he was never satisfied with winning and because he competed in goggles and embraced his look which made her confident to wear her goggles…Clubs she has been involved with are People of Color and Allies POCA Club…She volunteered over 600 hours at the Hair Braiding Studios, promoting elderly women hair care…Says Chinese food is her favorite…After graduation she would like to become a professional athlete, become a medical anesthesiologist and a screenwriter…Rachael is a Health and Human Science major at USC.
