Bio
THIS YEAR: Sophomore Reese Garland is in her second season as a thrower on the USC track and field team. She ranks fifth on USC's all-time discus throw list.
2024: Garland competed in six meets during the outdoor season, setting personal bests in the discus throw, shot put and hammer throw. She set her discus throw PR of 178-2 (54.32m) in placing third at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 27…Her mark was a little more than a foot off the USC freshman record and moved her into fifth place on USC’s all-time discus throw list. She set her shot put PR of 48-4.50 (14.74m) to place eighth and score for USC at the Pac-12 Championships on May 11. Garland placed 11th in the discus throw at the Pac-12 Championships and advanced to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the event. She improved in the discus throw nearly 33 feet during the season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Garland is a 2023 graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School in Oak Park, Ill. Garland placed second in the discus throw at the Illinois Class 3A T&F Championships with a throw of 145-7 (44.39m). Garland placed fifth in the 3A shot put finals with an outdoor PR of 42-5.25 (12.93m). She also won the indoor shot put state title at the Class 3A meet with an indoor PR of 42-9.75 (13.05m). For her special senior season she was awarded the female Athletic Medal from the OPRF Athletic Council. She also competed in volleyball and basketball at Oak Park and River Forest. She was the 2022 OPRFHS Homecoming Queen and was the recipient of the most athletic female award. She was an honor roll and Dean’s List student.
PERSONAL: Reese was born on May 30, 2005…Her parents are Amy and Ty Garland and she has two siblings, Kaden and Jaida…Kaden joins her on the USC track and field team this season...Her father was a linebacker on the Michigan State football team and was the 1993 high school shot put national champion...Her father was also her throws coach throughout high school...Her hobbies outside of track and field are volleyball, baking and spending time with friends….Her favorite actor is Adam Sandler and her favorite musical artist is DaBaby…Her sports hero is gold medal discus thrower Valarie Allman…Garland’s goal is to qualify for the Olympics…She is a Business major at USC.
