SOPHOMORE/2022-23
• 2023 WGCA and Golfweek All-America Honorable Mention selection.
• Leads USC in stroke average (71.76), rounds in the 60s (11), rounds of par or better (15, rounds under par (19), top 10 finishes (4) and top 25 finishes (9).
• Her 71.76 stroke average is ranked eighth in school history and her rounds in the 60s (11) is tied for first on USC’s all-time season chart. Her 21 career rounds in the 60s, in two seasons of play, is tied for third most in USC history and is one off of the top spot.
• Named to her second consecutive All-Pac-12 First Team
• Avery’s win at the Windy City Collegiate gives her four for her career, tied for fifth on USC’s career chart.
• Avery tied for third at the 2023 Pac-12 Championship at 4-under 212, helping lead USC to the conference title. She also tied for third at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational.
• Avery recently made her third career appearance at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. She made the cut for the second year in a row to earn a final round at Augusta National, where she tied for 29th at 8-over, which included a 1-under 71 second round at Champions Retreat.
• Avery earned her spot in the U.S. Women’s Open and made it past the cut, to finish tied for 48th at 10-over, which included a 2-under 70 first round at Pebble Beach.
• Entered her 2022-23 sophomore season ranked No. 6 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
FRESHMAN/2021-22
• 2022 WGCA and Golfweek All-America first team selection and a 2022 All-Pac-12 first team pick.
• Finalist for the 2022 ANNIKA Award as well as WGCA Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors
• Joined team as spring semester enrollee and started all nine spring events, winning three times (including at NCAA Regionals) while also posting a tie for second, a tie for fifth, a tie for sixth and a tie for eighth, good for seven top 10 finishes overall. That was tied for sixth on USC’s all-time season list, two off the record shared by LPGA stars Lizette Salas, Jennifer Song and Candie Kung.
* Her team-best stroke average of 71.64 through 28 rounds was the sixth-best in school history.
• Her three wins were tied with Sophia Popov for fourth on USC’s all-time season-chart behind NCAA winners Annie Park (2013) and Mikaela Parmlid (2003) and All-American Irene Cho (2006), all of whom had four.
* Won her first college title at 15-under 201 (65-71-65) at the Icon Invitational, clinching her one-stroke win with a short par on 18 after seven birdies on the day. Her 15-under tied the USC record for most under par in a 54-hole event and she became the first Trojan to post a pair of 65s in one tournament.
• She won at The Gold Rush at 5-under 211 (69-74-68) for her second straight crown.
• Avery captured her third win at the NCAA Stanford Regional at 9-under 204 (69-67-68). She built a three-stroke final-round lead before finishing with a one-stroke win over Stanford’s top-ranked Rose Zhang.
• Had team-best 10 rounds in the 60s, tied for second-most in a season at USC with Annie Park and one back of Kyung Kim, both set in 2014. Park had 36 rounds that season, Kim 35. Avery’s 10 rounds in the 60s already puts her in USC’s all-time career top 15, tied for 13th.
• Her five top 8s in a row to start her season was the best freshman start in at least two decades. She Had 13 rounds under par and 14 of par or better.
• Tied for fourth on at the 2022 Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Avery, who debuted las year at the event but missed the cut by a stroke, finished in a three-way tie for fourth at 1-over 217 (73-72-72), just two strokes back of first.
• Busy off-season included helping the U.S. Curtis Cup to a win, going 4-1. She then went 4-0 at the Arnold Palmer Cup, closing with a 6&5 individual win. She also qualified for the U.S. Amateur and advanced to the round of 16 before falling.
AMATEUR CAREER
• The home-schooled Avery entered USC having already played on some of the game’s biggest stages, including the 2021 Augusta National Women’s Amateur and at the 2021 Women’s U.S. Open.
• Her resume also includes medalist honors at the 2019 California Women’s Amateur, a 3-0 record playing for the 2021 U.S. Junior Solheim Cup team and playing in the 2021 LPGA Founder’s Cup.
• Avery was co-medalist at the Brentwood C.C. to make the U.S. Open and captured The John Shippen Shootout to earn her berth in the Founder’s Cup. She tied for ninth at both the 2021 Girls’ Junior PGA Championship and the 2021 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship.
• Avery, ranked second by Golfweek in the 2022 Class, won a 2020 Cactus Tour event as an amateur and also played in the 2021 Symetra Tour’s Garden City Charity Classic. She reached the round of 32 in the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur, was a semifinalist in the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball and reached the Round of 16 of the 2018 U.S. Girls’ Junior.
• Avery finished at 3-under to win the girls division of the inaugural 2021 Mack Champ Invitational at Memorial Park G.C. in March … She won her first four Toyota Tour Cup events in 2017 and was second alternate at her 2017 U.S. Open qualifying site. Avery was also the 2019 SCGA Player of the Year.
PERSONAL
• Avery is a communication major … She was one of eight junior golfers featured in the 2013 Netflix documentary, “The Short Game.”
• Started golf lessons at age 4.
• Younger sister Alona also a competitive amateur golfer.
