CAREER: New Zealander Amelia Garvey finished her USC career as a three-time All-American and two-time All-Pac-12 first team selection, helping USC win two Pac-12 titles while playing in the NCAA Championships three times. Garvey, who started in 29 tournaments as a Trojan, finished her college career 16th on USC's career stroke average chart (73.12) and tied for ninth in career rounds in the 60s (11). Other career highlights included her 2021 appearance in the Augusta National Women's Amateur, two starts in the U.S. Women's Open (2020-21) and her tie for seventh at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
2021: Garvey, as a 2021 senior, earned Golfweek All-American honorable mention and All-Pac-12 first team honors while helping USC win its second straight conference championship. Garvey, ranked collegiately inside the top 25 (Golfweek) and internationally inside the top 35 (WAGR), finished third on the team with a stroke average of 72.71 to go with 10 rounds of par or better, including eight under par. She posted four top 10s as a senior, had six finishes inside the top 16 with just one result outside the top 22 ... Garvey posted a USC-career-best second place in leading the Trojans to the Pac-12 title at 5-under 208 (67-72-69), her first round a season low. Other top 10s included a tie for fourth at the Sun Devil Winter Classic at 2-under 214 (74-70-70), a tie for eighth at the Silverado Showdown at 2-over 218 (73-72-73) and a 10th at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational at 2-under 214 (69-75-70) ... Her tie for 12th at the NCAA Stanford Regional might have been her most impactful as her 11-foot putt on 18 in the final round clinched a sixth-place finish for USC, sending the Trojans to nationals by one stroke.
2020: Garvey earned WGCA and Golfweek All-American honorable mention honors as a 2020 junior while finishing the season ranked 22nd in the country by Golfweek … She closed the shortened season with three straight fifth-place finishes, including in Troy's final event at the Bruin Wave Invitational, where she was even at 216 (75-69-72). She also tied for fifth at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at 3-under 210 (69-73-68) -- her final round one off her career best -- and was fifth at the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate at 4-under 212 (73-70-69) … She wrapped the season second on the team in stroke average with a career-best 72.00 (tied for 11th-best in school history) and her four rounds in the 60s tied Allisen Corpuz for team best. She had 10 efforts of par or better in 18 rounds … At the Australian Master of the Amateurs Championship in January in Victoria, Australia, Garvey - the top ranked amateur from New Zealand - tied for 20th at 11-over 299 (78-76-70-75).
2019: Garvey earned WGCA All-American honorable mention and All-Pac-12 first team honors as a 2019 sophomore, starting in four of USC’s seven wins… She finished fifth on the team with a 73.20 stroke average in 25 rounds and had four rounds in the 60s. She finished no worse than a tie for 16th in eight of nine starts, including three tops 10s … She closed the season with a tie for seventh at the NCAA Championships at 2-over 221 (74-73-74), USC's best finish at nationals since Doris Chen won the NCAA title in 2014 … She posted a collegiate best tie for fifth at the Clover Cup at 4-over 220 (74-73-73), besting her tie for eighth at the Stanford Intercollegiate at 3-under 210 (69-72-69). She fired a collegiate-best 5-under 67 to tie for 11th at the Silverado Showdown at 5-over 221 (78-76-67) to complement three rounds of 69s this year … Garvey defeated Arizona’s Sandra Nordaas, 4&2, in the East Lake Cup semifinals ... In 2019 U.S. Open qualifying in April, she missed a spot by two strokes, taking fourth at the Industry Hills G.C. qualifier at 6-under 138 (72-66) … During the 2019 summer, Garvey reached the final of the Ladies British Amateur, falling in the final on the 18th hole, 1 down. Garvey was among the top 3 in stroke play and won five matches to reach the final ... She finished eighth in stroke play at the 2019 North & South Amateur before falling in the first round of match play … Garvey tied for 18th at the 2019 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship at 4-over 292.
2018: Garvey, as a 2018 spring semester freshman, was a six-time starter who competed throughout the postseason. She posted a stroke average of 74.76 with one top 10 finish and four in the top 30 … She tied for third in the single round of stroke play at the SDSU March Mayhem at 1-under 71 before winning all three of her matches 1up, defeating Cal’s Amina Wolf, Northwestern’s Sarah Cho and Texas’ Maddie Luitwieler … She tied for 19th at the Silverado Showdown at 4-over 220 (75-72-73) and tied for 23rd at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships at 6-over 222 (78-72-72) … She tied for 71st in the NCAA Championships stroke play at 23-over 311 (73-78-79-81), but bounced back to win her quarterfinal match over Duke’s Ana Belac, 2up. She fell in her semifinal match against Alabama’s Kristen Gillman, 3&1 …Chief among her summer highlights was representing New Zealand at the World Amateur Team Championships where she tied for 23rd at 1-under 289 (76-70-72-71) while leading the Kiwis to 19th overall … She tied for 15th at the Women’s TRANS National Amateur with a 291 (77-72-69-73) and posted a tie for 26th at the 2018 Canadian Women’s Amateur at 5-over 289 (74-72-68-75).
HIGH SCHOOL: Garvey, from Burnside High in Christchurch, N.Z., came to USC with a full resume of success in New Zealand. The third-ranked amateur there, she was first at the 2017 New Zealand Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship and also won the 2017 South Island Women’s Stroke Play title. A co-recipient of the 2018 Lydia Ko Scholarship, Garvey was selected to represent her country at the Queen Sirikit Cup in China and finished second at the 2017 South Australia Junior Amateur. In 2016, she competed at the Junior World Championships at Torrey Pines and tied for first at the APGC Mitsubishi Girl’s Championship in Chinese Taipei. In 2015, she became the second youngest player to win a professional tournament in New Zealand behind LPGA star Lydia Ko after capturing the Sir Bob Charles Tour Autex Muriwai.
PERSONAL: Garvey, born in the U.K., began playing golf in 2006. She graduated with a degree in Communication … She lists fellow Kiwi and former world No. 1 Lydia Ko as an inspiration.
